I genuinely hate teachers unions

Unions for any public service bothers me but especially teachers unions.

Im gonna cough up the $15k to put my daughter in private school next year but for fall 2020 see has to be in the public school cesspool.

But our county put out a survey to the parents on how they want to handle school in the fall and 50% wanted schools fully open, 28% wanted hybrid and 22% wanted online only.

Then yesterday the teachers union came out to demand online only. Lol fuk you scumbags. Our tax money pays you salary for you to do your job, so fuking do it. I swear teachers unions give zero fuks about the kids and only want the extended vacation with full pay.

i say this because every single statistic and metric involving covid shows that kids are at virtually zero risk AND dont even transmit tue fuking disease. theres literally zero scientific reason to close schools and yet leave wal marts open.

I need to get with some other parents and demand my money back if they go with online only classes in the fall.

On top of all that i also hate them because its impossible for a teacher to get fire so you get left with ****s and miserable teachers in charge of your kids. private school is 100% the way to go bois

Unions are sh*t period.

Employment opportunities, pay, etc should be merit based.

Were they not doing their job? I'm seriously asking, all of my friends who are parents have been delighted with what their kids are doing from home. I wouldn't personally call remote learning for 6 hours a day an extended vacation with full pay, so I'm interested in hearing your experience with it.
i say this because every single statistic and metric involving covid shows that kids are at virtually zero risk ANDdont even transmit tue fuking disease.
I haven't heard this, could you cite your statistic? That would be really interesting to read about.

Like, tax money back? I guess I'm not really understanding - if your kids are being taught, it sounds like you only want childcare, but also you're mad about unions.

Teachers are one of the laziest groups ive ever come across. I have a cousin whos a teacher and shes been posting beach and drink on the deck selfies since march. She has always biched and complained about how hard teaching is meanwhile she gets 3 months off a year and lives in an upper class suburb in jersey. What a fuking joke.

Teacher here of 5 years. Unions aren't a big thing here in Texas. I know some teachers are members of them, but I have never been asked to join one, approached by one, or could even name a union here. I get to work at 7 and generally leave at 5. More often then not I also do work at home. Grading papers is the norm.

But the breaks are nice and even things out quite a bit imo. I don't have any kids of my own so can't give that input. Teaching already has a very high turn over rate, and I think it would be a lot higher without the breaks.

Having also been a firefighter for 5 years, teaching is a lot more stressful. Your "breaks" are full of paperwork and meetings. No real time to do anything because you're always with the kids... or in a meeting of some type. It all gets put off till after work or you take it home.

I read where the largest teachers union is backing the new BLM curriculum.

I guess the entire month of February isn’t enough to teach our children just about our black brothers and sisters. We now have to have a entire curriculum around it just to make sure we know.

And it’s just not about black lives but transgender acceptance, police brutality, capitalism is bad, etc..

2000 cases in TX right now associated with daycares. 2/3rds are daycare staff and the other 1/3rd are children.

More and more districts are delaying or starting out virtual/remote learning only. I suspect those that open will end up closing when they get kids and staff popping hot.

How many teachers can be out on a 14 day quarantine (or diagnosed positive) while keeping the school open?

I’m not a teacher but I believe teachers are undervalued and deserve the time off. Thé class time itself is challenging enough But then add lesson planning for an entire year and marking, meetings etc it’s a lot of work that goes unrewarded.

If all your students were like your best students it would be the easiest job. They do what they're suppose to do, learn at the proper pace, and you can do fun stuff with them.

It's 5% of the students that cause 95% of the work unfortunately. The office doesn't do anything in a lot of schools these days because all they're worried about is parents complaining. All you get from parents is "we'll talk to them." then they show up with a new phone the next day. I've literally had to find alternative activities for a whole class because I know certain kids couldn't handle it.

Being a good teacher is not a low skill job. Also I don’t know where you live but here you need a 4 year degree alongside another 1-2 year teaching degree that is 40 hours a week all year Plus 100s if hours in the field.

brb if you dont speak english you fail (or should be in a full time ESL program)

kids with learning disabilities I genuinely feel for - hope your district has programs to assist with that. More than likely though, the kids have "ADD"

Yes, not sure why there is a "low skill" view other than it is mostly women taking care of children in the lower grades.

Also from what I have heard it really sucks now. My aunt retired from teaching high school. Have an acquaintance that has moved up to district curriculum writer or some such.

Teachers can't really discipline kids much anymore and have to follow a lot of specific district stuff in their teaching. May get evaluated based on student performance which can be "luck of the draw" as far as the quality of student you get.

They do get nice breaks, but not 3 months at summer. Students only get 10 weeks. Teachers get more like 6 weeks.

Not to mention most are underfunded and class sizes are overcrowded.

Part that I'll never understand is all the teachers I know post constantly on ******** on how underpaid or underappreciated they are or working conditions, but didn't they know that before they decided to go into the field? It's like no one looked up an average wage or stepped foot into a school before they decided to go into education.
