Interesting to note that in the Russian example, the template for all Leftist revolutions since, Lenin in the very next passage describes the Czar fighting back somewhat with a little success, especially from the end of 1907-1910, however, the Bolsheviks constantly “[learning from] defeat that taught the revolutionary parties and the revolutionary class a real and very useful lesson, a lesson in historical dialectics, a lesson in an understanding of the political struggle, and in the art and science of waging that struggle. It is at moments of need that one learns who one’s friends are. Defeated armies learn their lesson.” Lenin describes the necessary tactic of strategic retreat when needed.

The Bolsheviks continued to be ruthless and adjust and regroup until they were victorious. The Czar never fought them to the finish and they kept surviving, further ideological brainwashing, fund-raising, and attacking.

The "real" American civil war was completely unlike most civil wars in that regard. Modern civil wars are more akin to terrorists/insurgent groups bombing, ambushing, assassinating and making life horrible for everyone.
