LMAO at leaving the U.S. The travelcels who brag about all the countries they've visited are absolute toolbags because the U.S. has literally anything you could really want. Very few places offer anything better to offer. If you want to go to other countries then I got no problem with it but you're not becoming more enlightened because you left the US for a month and came back. You're just an entitled douchebag who wants to act like he's better than others in this country because you "traveled"

30% of the US is 100 million people, not really a small number.

As someone who has travelled internationally multiple times I'll say there is plenty of extremely interesting stuff to see stateside. The only thing Europe has that we don't is 500+ year old buildings, and we actually do have some old Spanish forts like Castillo de San Marcos if that's your thing.

I definitely appreciate the culture in the European and South American countries I've visited but really nothing other than culture you can't see in the US.

Italy is on the long downward slide. Most of it's smart young people leave to other EU countries with more opportunities. It's a country full of old, abandoned buildings and old, aging people. Beautiful place though, and the people are friendly.

Have been to Europe couple of times. Traveled around France, Italy, Switzerland, and a little bit of Spain. Honestly? Meh. Traveling the US has always been more fun and interesting, plus the quality of life here is simply better. I'd love to see South Korea or Japan, as I hear they're far more modern than Europe, which is hilariously aged and grimy for a lot of the part (see: Paris, gross). Switzerland was the only place I'd re-visit, as the landscape is absolutely stunning and the people there were always really nice.

The US is big enough with enough variation that a lot of people stay inside the US for vacations.

Flights across the ocean suck balls and can be expensive.

There is also all the minor things like phone will still work, electrical outlets are the same, everyone speaks english, generally safer than 3rd world chit holes ect.

America itself is massive with an incredibly diverse landscape. You could easily 'travel' in America for 4 weeks per year, every year, for your entire life. And you'd still have things to do, to see, to experience, etc. The only think your really missing out on is foreign culture/ cuisine. But if you don't care about that type of thing...



I'm 33 and have never left America. Not that I don't want to. Thing is, when I do leave its going to be to do a lot more then look around. I want to scuba dive the great barrier reef and experience Australia's coastal waters from below. I want to go on a Safari in Africa and hunt a few big game animals. I want to take a sailboat around the Caribbean and visit the different islands. Scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing/spear fishing, etc. I want to hunt the wilds of Argentina. I want to spend some serious time on horseback and in a canoe in the remote area's of Canada & Alaska. Etc.




The idea of going bum around in hostiles, just drinking/getting fugged up every night and trying to bang foreign girls, etc. just loses its appeal once you become a lot more settled. As far as looking at old architecture and eating foreign food. Sounds fun and all but when I take a trip somewhere I want an epic adventure that I'll never forget. I want to be immersed in an activity that I can't do at home. In order to do that, I'm going to grind and save my traveling for when I'm retired at 54ish.

I've see a lot of the world, and to be honest it just makes me more appreciate living in the USA. Most of the world is a sh!t hole in comparison. Plus why spend thousands just to fly and explore a bunch of cities around the world, to get ripped off, because of scavengers with tourists?

For example, people go to the Caribbean all the time to sit on a beach. They're spending thousands to sit on a beach and drink over priced alcohol. You can do that in any warm climate in the states, for a fraction of the price...

Why do so many people think traveling is always worthwhile? More frequently you end up disappointed and ripped off than the other way around. Most my travel related memories are uncomfortable or scary situations, poor accomodations, and disappointing landmarks and cities.

I am on a beach vacation now and am bored out of my mind.

I would like to go to Ireland, Wales, and maybe around Cambridge. Then again with my family I probably would not get to do any of the things I want when I get there.

Edit:. Oh, and the world has become more homogenized. It use to be you could go to Budapest to get outside Western European standardization. I remember Czech and Hungary being interesting back in 2005. By 2010 it was already changing into the typical European tourist trap template. Now you need to go to Serbia or further to feel things are different. Then again France always feels weird.
