Has your friend even been there? This was a tomahawk for two, they have individual steaks too. Not sure what your friend is on about, srs.

For the unrefined out there. In a lot of steakhouses when you get a steak for 2, they'll cut it for you so you pick it right off the bone. What's nice is because they cut it, they'll know whether they fuked up in cooking it.

Looks good to me and I love creamed spinach. No truffle fries? What did you have for beverages?

The only issue with steakhouses, if there is a good butcher near you, you can get a great piece of meat for under $20, and cook it yourself.

I have a Weber kettle and invested $100 in cast iron grates. Put the lump charcoal off to one side, cook the steak indirect until it gets to 105-110, and then sear it for 2 minutes a side.

The spinach was so green (not sure the camera shows it) that you barely taste the "creamed" part. Hints of nutmeg and some other spices, but it is hand chopped spinach (not pureed) and it was actually a highlight.

I get what you mean about "heavy" meals in general though - my wife won't be going back.

That plate looks as old as the steakhouse itself.

Why do you have spoons on your steak plate anyway.

Cutting the steak like that makes it lose temperature quickly and loses juice.

The food looks pretty good, but I would've overreacted and caused a big scene with the waiter because they cut my steak without me.

I would've still eaten it, but I would've complained the whole time and then demanded that my drinks and dessert were taken off the bill.

Then I'd go home and post my experience on ********, possibly starting a GoFundMe page as well, in order to start the healing process.

and yeah, the history of sparks with the fact that castellano was whacked there with gotti supposedly watching from across the street is intriguing but don't let that take away from the food; it's on an point, old school steakhouse with amazing meals and service

i eat there twice a year and it is consistently my favorite for what it is. plus the thousands of clay pipes and the history behind them is cool af

Delmonico's was better than keen's. Keen's mutton chop was amazing though. Their steak was under salted.

No fries - remember we had their thick cut bacon and a 6 piece jumbo shrimp cocktail to start (not pictured). I heard from too many people that the sides were quite weak, so we went with the spinach.

I hear you on making steak at home - I'm a cast iron guy.

It might be the camera - it is a proper "medium rare".

The dessert is Apfelstrudel, yo. Flaky pastry with an apple filling (this was grated apple, sugar, cinnamon and raisins - the latter being considered not so traditional in some circles). The pastry was outstanding too, but I don't go to a steakhouse for spinach and dessert, heh.

Lucali's is pretty good, but get ready to wait. Joe's is good too. I know of a fantastic place in Queens that rivals the best I ever had in Naples. If you're ever here shoot me a PM.

I haven't been to Delmonico's yet. Keens' mutton chop is out of this world - I had it my first time there, over the steak. The server recommended it.

The thing about Keens as well is the atmosphere. I've gone there after work with the boys and if we are waiting for a table they take us to this side bar - full of people, great energy, people talking to each other. It's almost like going back in time, heh. I like it as an overall experience more than most places I've gone to in NYC.
