Is Peter Luger's actually good? That actually looks pretty mediocre. Creamed spinach is good.

steak looks great but it bothers me that the spoon handles are resting on the food. cutlery handles should never rest on the food.

Luger's steak sauce is amazing, it has horseradish in it. They use to sell it at BJ's where I lived, I think you can buy it off of their website

The creamed spinach was pretty good - wasn't expecting it to be great. Had heard that the Bratkartoffeln aren't that great, and I'm married to a German lady so...we skipped that.

Honestly? The NYT famously gave them 0 stars in a recent review. My wife said she'd never go back again. I do think that the steak was pretty good. Not pictured were my appetizers (bacon, and a 6 piece jumbo shrimp cocktail) - both of which were mediocre. The bread that they give you isn't good at all - we glanced at it and set it aside.

Have you never been to a restaurant where you are served your food? The waiters do that for you at this restaurant. "dumbass". And the spoon is on the bone.

It sounds like they've been living off their reputation. I read that review, someone had an axe to grind. Steak looks awesome. Reminds me of Andre's in Naples where they cut it in pieces for you like that.

my brothers apartment has this area down at the bottom which people staying there get access to. its like this huge room with multiple tv's, pool table, etc. this lady was doing stuff at the computer

and she overheard us talking. my brother must have asked us where or what we wanted to eat and i must have said steak. and this lady interjected about peter lugers

then ive heard about it elsewhere. but she flat out adamantly said lugers

yeah this must be some hipster chit i don't understand, usually you broil something in the salamander but move it to a clean plate to serve, that's the same plate it was cooked on

i guess they want the hot plate but plate warmers have existed for a very long time..

I'm sure some people enjoy it, but steakhouses have the most poverty food in my opinion. Just fatty and tasteless to me--giant chunk of meat, cream-filled spinach with no taste, butter-saturated but weirdly bland desserts... not my thing.

my friend doesn't like Peter Luger because the steak is overloaded with butter. and he wants an individual steak - not a carved up one to share with everyone.

Yeah I didn't mention that - I was surprised at how good the sauce was. I ate most of the steak without it, then towards the end used some.

Not sure what to think here. Like this guy says:

Maybe it is an "in NYC" thing, but this place is hyped to an absolute extreme. Even friends of mine in Germany or in other countries who know I moved here usually say "Peter Luger's!!!"

My best steak in NYC so far is at Minetta Tavern. @Bigdumogre - where would you say is the best in NYC? I'm still hunting.
