I keep my 'spider jar' handy.....not "2 floors downstairs".
"Economics books"....quite a heavy weapon of choice when in close proximity to arachnids.
If the book doesn't do the job one could bore them to death by reading to them.

Depends on the spider. I won't touch the damn things but I won't freak out just being in their proximity. Have no problem killin em if I deem it necessary.
And of course I'm the exterminator. Tis the man's job to kill while the woman freaks out in the corner.

No and I live in Australia. Redbacks are basically black widows and they aren't our most venomous spider, that would be the funnel web, which can kill you. But the thing about a spider is, you can just step on it and it's dead. I'd rather deal with a funnel web than say an angry hornet, even though the funnel web is lethal, because a giant wasp flying around is much harder to kill and much more likely to sting you.
EDIT
One time Mrs Beer encountered a funnel web, it reared at her and exposed her fangs, her reflex was to stomp it flat and was then like "oops I was only wearing slippers, maybe I should have walked around it". Anyway Aussie Girl 1 Funnel Web 0.

Those muthers somehow match the surface they land on and fvking disappear!....I don't get it either.
Now.....is it under your bed?....in your pillow case?
Keep your jar handy.

I'm exaggerating, of course.
I like knowing where they are so I can relocate them.
Spiders can't see us....we're just a shadow in their eyes.
The coolest one....'salticidea' ....jumpers.
Best eye sight and they are predators.
Even the brown recluse is not as venomous/dangerous as perceived and they are not ubiquitous in the US....only in specific mid west/SW territory.
Only about 1/10 get any sort of systematic reaction and no deaths are on record. (accordingly to my most recent research)
Black widow....if they wander in the home it's a fluke....that's not their preferred turf.
In that specific case, the easily identified BW should meet it's maker especially if children are in the home.
That's acontext specific judgment call that I have no problem with....that's just common sense.
What would really be disconcerting is if spiders had wings!
Back to it.....

I live alone so I deal with the spiders and everything else. Thankfully I haven't had much of a spider problem in my condo. I used to get those big brown super fast spiders in my house. They freak me out because they're so hard to catch. Once I know a spider is in here, I can't sleep, because I'm afraid it'll get me. No issues squishing them at all. Other bugs I usually try to catch and throw outside.

No.
And opie is definitely a *******.
And opie is definitely a *******.
Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone
Tell where I lie.

if they're the super tiny ones then i let them be but if they're decently large (roughly the size of a grasshopper) then it's GG for them.
Feels bad cause I know they're chill little dudes that just want to eat other insects
