Well remember even the smallest horses I raced weighed 900-1000 pounds. And he was on the smaller side so probably 950 pounds or so.

I kept all of my geldings on equipoise and Winstrol V. 5 CC's each every 2 weeks. Even the mares (females) were on that.

(BTW mods if this is not allowed I will remove the post but since we are talking race horses and it was legal to do I feel it is ok to talk about).

For the test about 2-3 CC every week.

Never once saw a negative effect from using any of that.

Race horses race every 7-10 days, train 5 days a week, and are under constant stress. To expect them to race on just hay and oats is ridiculous.

Most everything that you see being used on people today? From steroids to DMSO to Chrondroitin sulphate and glucosamine to breathing aids?

We used on race horses way back in the 80s onward.

The best prerace I ever used (prerace is something you give a horse before he races to go faster-sometimes legal sometimes not) was simple baking soda mixed with electrolytes and a few other things like MSM-called it a milkshake. A half a box to a box of it about 5 hours before the race kept them from tying up and usually improved a horses performance by 1-2 seconds. Which is 5 to 10 lengths. It neutralizes the lactic acid build up in the muscles.

The racing commissions test for it now by using a blood gas machine before each race. If the horses blood gas was over a certain limit, they know you gave him a milkshake and you are DQ'd.

Another story. That horse that won 100 races for me (and all my horses) I would give them an Amino acid/electrolyte/ DMSO 'jug' every 10 days or so. Good way to keep them healthy.

Basically it is a lactated ringers with lots of amino acids and DMSO mixed in. I would stick a 16 gauge needle in his main jug vein on their neck and you connect a hose to it and let the jug IV straight into their bloodstream. Took about 5 minutes as a 16 gauge is a big needle.

Anyway I was at the barn late one night jugging some horses and I would always take rubbing alcohol and clean the spot where the needle goes in. For whatever reason, a total brain fart, instead of pouring DMSO into the jug, I poured straight rubbing alcohol into it.

So I started the jug into his vein and about half way through I am wondering why I can't smell any DMSO on his breath. DMSO has a very strong and distinct odor and when you jug a horse with it you can smell it on their breath almost immediately. So the horse starts to wobble a little bit and I am like "fawkkkkkkkkkkk......I put rubbing alcohol straight into him". At least 2 cups worth.

I was scared ****less because this was my all time favorite horse and I loved him like my own son. So I stop, he wobbles around for a few minutes, and then shook it off like a champ and he was fine. I hope he enjoyed his drunkeness.

I thought for sure he was going to drop dead on me. My heart is beating fast now just thinking about it. What an idiot I was.

In my experience also. Have been around Rodeo, dressage, and pleasure riders. All a bit batchit crazy. Dated a couple in college while I was living on the horse unit (quarter horse breeding). One was more of just an overall animal lover, but still a bit crazy.

This is great. Reminds me of a story- my dad farms a small herd of cows (more of a hobby, but a dream of his forever). One calf he was sending to auction had hurt its leg somehow, and that REALLY cuts into how much you can get for them, even if it's not a bad injury. So it was limping a little, and this experienced farmer who is my dad's partner said 'no problem' and took the calf with a bunch of others. These calves were all probably around 500+ pounds, including the one with the injured leg.

He sold the calves and we asked how that cow did, and he said Fine. He had given it a pint of apple brandy right before auction and the calf loved it, guzzled the whole thing and didn't limp any at all, lol. Probably felt pretty darn good, actually.

Rancher and rodeo contestant checking in. Girls raised on a ranch around working horses are pretty damn salt of the earth for the most part. City girls/equestrian girls in love with horses... AVOID AT ALL COST! Such is not to say I haven’t used my status as a horse owner to have aforementioned crazies suck my dink several times but they’re generally absolutely bonkers. The easiest way to distinguish is whether they wear a straw hat (ranch girl) or a helmet (crazies).

Yeah some old time race horse trainers used to IV the horse with a little vodka before a race. I never really could see that working to make a horse go faster other than a little pain killer, but by the time the horse actually raced the effects would have well worn off.

I was more concerned what I did because it was straight rubbing alcohol. And lots of it.

When it comes to race horses some b12 pills and some Clenbuterol under the tongue is all you need to get some extra leg out of them. I owned horses for an Indian relay team for a few years, no blood tests. If you Bro’s aren’t aware of Indian relay I suggest you give it a quick look on YouTube it’s pretty wild.

Clen I used all week on a lot of horses. Had to stop 48 hours out before they raced though for testing purposes. We would inject it IV.

B12 was included in the Jugs I would give them every 10 days or so.

Vit E and Selenium is another vit that really helps race horses. I take it myself.

Thyroid powder was a big help as well.

I probably used well over 100 different drugs and/or vitamin supps on my horses over the years.

I will check out the Inidan thing.

The horses I raced were these. Standardbreds.

We didn’t have any bleeders at the track, some of the more ruthless owners would have these horses so spun up they’d actually have heart attacks and die mid race but we’d black list them for their actions. I ran mostly quarter horses but my best was a Fancy Man Dash thorough bred, he was stupid fast and very gentle which is a rare combo. Loaned him out to a friend that kicked him out in the pasture before a blizzard, being the barn horse he was he got snowed under and died, a lot of whiskey drunks and an ass kicking to said friend commenced immediately afterward.

That sucks. I would have killed the guy. Srs.

All of my horses were like my kids. And when they race for many $1000s every week-usually $10 k to $50 K a week, and were worth up to $100,000 or more, they got treated like kings.
