In real tea it’s mostly just the younger generations who were gaslighted into thinking the ‘08 market crash didn’t affect their ability to move up economically on a wide scale. Many are waking up to the fact that it did, as supported by stats like the most 20-somethings living at home in history

Social media is toxic. People get depressed looking at other people's lives comparing to theirs. Technology is good and bad. This is why the 90s and early 2000s were goat eras simply because we didn't have phones and social media snd tech like today.

But not just a culture shift. It's something we have never seen before. And things keep changing drastically all of the time now.

This video explains some of the major behavioral/interaction changes and effects of social media. In this video he literally points to 2013 as the time of change. Which would be the year Gen Z graduated HS or started going to college.


This is just one tiny part of the 2012 theory, it goes much deeper.

Except there was a major culture shift. Things changed more after 2012 than any other period in history. I mean we are literally connected to everything with 4g now.

Ive always known hes right. 2012 is the time when it really started to change and by 2014 it was already an unstoppable force. Now in 2020 we are just getting to the darkest waters of the ocean, the worse is yet to come.



Im calling it right now, 2025 will be the "THE FUK DID WE DO!?" year.

2012 was just the time kids were becoming adults who were brought up purely on social media/ipad/iphones. They didnt have in person social interaction like they did social media. They saw perfection and edited filtered images of everyone and thought that needed to be them. They prioritized social media presence over work ethic, knowledge from school, and social skills. It wasnt engineered by anyone specifically and no one is more to blame than society as a whole.

A lot of the arguments around those illustrations I found questionable because, I mean, I think we can honestly debate whether or not teen depression and anxiety rates have anything to do with social media. Some of it was just obvious.

The "hmm, fukk, good point" moment was when they pointed out that the recommendation algorithms are accidentally identifying crazy people and recommending them things that other crazy people enjoy, thereby spreading crazy like wildfire to the people who are most susceptible to believing crazy things. I am acquainted with how those work and this is not wrong, and it is probably really bad. One dude just straight-up suggested that everyone ignore recommendation algorithms for media forever, and I might take him up on it.

Watching it now brother. I think i have an idea what they are going to talk about. My guess is that the creators knew the possibilities and harm it could cause to society but went on and did it anyways for money and they don't have us in their best interest. Might post my opinion later.

I thought I could call it from a distance too, but my 2 cents about the creators.. does anyone ever really dump a bunch of time and effort into a legitimate pursuit, with the expectation that it will be awful for society? I don't think so, they do try to suggest they had good intentions, and I believe them. I think people are generally good natured, and of course there are always exceptions we can point to, evils of various kinds. But again, in general, we can take it all the way to the beginning of the internet, it is nothing like what was envisioned. I don't think people try to cause harm.

Yeah I’ve agreed with you before that iPhone didn’t really become mainstream until 2011-2012, so as an inflection point that we can say was a cultural shift that occurred. But to say “everything” changed at that time because people all hopped on the smartphone train is a reach

You almost speak as if people becoming more connected via a global network of communication is a negative thing. In fact, it hasn’t been more a positive since the days of global exploration wherein different societies shared culture and became one-that is in essence a movement towards global consciousness. But you’re free to buy into the gaslighting that it represents shift towards things like “new world order” that low vibration conspiracy theorists like to believe

I saw it last night. It was good overall, but I question whether it was just a hit piece on the conspiratorial thinking that's been spreading as of late.

The first half gave great insight into how the apps are designed to addict, track, and manipulate us.

In the second half, they say everyone's feeds are customized to their personal likes, and these bubbles are what cause the division in society.

They point out that the real threat isn't the technology itself, but rather the beliefs that people are manipulated into believing that have real world consequences.

It became less about the tech companies being shady and needing to fix their algorithms, and more about how there are people that think differently (specifically flat earthers and pizzagaters) that are harmful to society.

Maybe I'm wrong, but by the end of the documentary, it felt like propaganda, because it didn't stay impartial.
