I doubt it works or everyone would do it. But could you put vibration activated high pitch alarms on doors, windows and walls? Srs. How do you think they would respond?

Edit: best trail cam?

Lol, repped. Then the Canadian would apologize if he had to hit it. J/K Canada, mirin' ya'lls space up there.

OP, sounds like a nice life, srs. Do you live on the island? Is it permanent residences mostly, or all summer homes? Nova Scotia? We have reps up there, sounds like a cool area.

Yes, a unique situation for me in that I am a licensed trapper and we may take bears as a furbearing animal. No limit actually, and the meat may be used but the hide doesnt have to be if it is not great. This happens to be a nuisance animal, within my trap area so I am good to go.

If I am trying for a large bear I will set up a cell phone trail camera on a bait. I can watch bears come and go from home. If large males are coming in, mothers and cubs avoid the bait. Large male bears are the number one cub killers. They kill cubs so the female come into heat again and they can mate with here. Savage as fuk. That is how I will avoid a cub. When i see a large male coming in regularly and no cubs i will set a snare. This one is a nuisance, so I will monitor carefully.

Dispatch is a .22 magnum behind the ear. Instant lights out.

I will keep it, and butcher it myself. Bear is mostly burger for me due to the fact that the meat must be cooked fully through as they can carry parasites you don't want to get. Deer, moose and surprisingly waterfowl can be left rare.

My town has 250 fulltime residents, and about 3000 summer or seasonal cottagers from toronto, usa and everywhere else. Almost all are on islands.

I live in town, but have a trapline cabin out on the water.

What reps do you have here? like, what business?

Will see what happens.

Animals never play by our rules, but will send pics.

This bear is not huge, but the young males generally are the ones that cause trouble.

You strike me as the kind of alpha brah who would join up with the local police chief to save the town from vampires in a '30 days of night' type scenario.

Teamed up with police to look for dead bodies. My dad pulled two into our boat over the years growing up here. Local cottagers getting pickled and drowning.

As for vampire defense, that is probably best case scenario.

My whole life has been leadership. Did four Years in Adventure Leadership in university, plus manage a crew of tradies, so I could lead the charge against some undead.

Get some.

Damn that's interesting. I didn't know that about the males, but makes sense. Also explains why females are so protective of the cubs.

Ya, from a wildlife management perspective it is actually better for the bear population to target large males.

I can do whats called "hazing", where I blast the hell out of it with rubber bullets and try to make it afraid of people again.

Issue is, this guy is still scared of people, he just knows that there is food in buildings now.

So yes, not much else to do . Eventually he will lose his fear of people too going down this road.

Cool! Would love to visit that area.
We're a wood and pellet stove manufacturer, so we sell to Canadian Tire and Kent and a bunch of other stores and chains. Our brand up there is Timber Ridge, we've been manufacturing since 1976 and have a good reputation, so Canadians like our stuff fortunately.
Repped for info on bear meat, I process the deer we kill but we have some bears around now, so thanks. Cook well-well done
Edit: What do you recommend shooting them with if not trapping? We have just about every common caliber rifle in our family, and of course 12-ga shotguns.
