I feel like cancer was the cause of death for all the people in the past that died of "old age" or any that were undetermined. They just finally figured it out and gave a name to it in our lifetime.

Not cancer, it's industrialization, level of development, and health care standards. Africa obviously lags behind in all of those departments and, without googling, it's safe to say their infant mortality rates are significantly higher and that has a massive impact on average life expectancy @ birth

So a newborn can expect, on average, to live about 76 years. If you survive to the age of 70, you can probably expect to live until ~85. If you live to 85, you can probably expect to live another ~6 years



And this all ties into the commentary on COVID, with people misinterpreting data by stating that those affected have already lived beyond average life expectancy so we shouldn't put much emphasis on it. That's not how it fukn works guys, if someone lives to 80 and is killed by a novel respiratory virus, they died before their time. Someone who lives to 80 in America should be able to, on average, expect another 8 years of life ahead of them
