The government killed the majority of good black leaders.. and those that didn't get killed they made sure to destroy neighborhoods with drugs to squash any more of that chit.

Whatever you think of Henry Louis Gates, I enjoy his documentaries. A few years ago, he put this one out: Black America since MLK: and Still I Rise

In it, he describes how the thinking among young Blacks was moving away from the nonviolent protest movement MLK pushed, and increasingly embraced the fight-back mentality groups like the Black Panthers preached. MLK's death shifted the Civil Rights movement back towards the nonviolent movement. Had MLK not been assassinated, we would have seen the widespread violence of today's BLM movement explode in the 70s and 80s instead of coming to a head now.

He apparently plagarised his doctorate thesis too. People have given him way too much leeway and reverence.
