Is the role of the government to kill its citizens?

Well I think it's too soft.

Think about it. "Eye for an eye" doesn't even come to play because you're usually trading an innocent, law -abiding life for a criminal, evil life. Both lives aren't even close to the same value objectively and for society.

Life in prison depends on the prison. People who say "Life in prison is worse" well I can assure you when given the choice people will choose to still live. People can live a full life and even enjoy a top rank in prison society. Imagine someone you loved getting raped, tortured and murdered while the culprit sits in some high ranking prison gang for the rest of their life?

It's not even an issue anymore, we have criminals getting out in under 15 years for committing cold-blooded murders. lol @ having any sympathy, we're going BACKWARDS with criminal punishment now. Look at Canada and California. Even look at countries where you can get harsher penalties for speaking out against covid then beating the fuk out of someone.

Beyond a doubt, yes. Yes no system is perfect and over the course of decades you will have innocents sentenced but with current technology I feel it's extremely accurate enough to have innocent cases down to nearly zero. People getting falsely sentenced is my only concern, but when it's beyond doubt, death is too lenient because you cannot get back what life they took.

Number 1 and 2 contradicts each other.

You state it doesn't deter crime, but do you know why it costs more to give out the death penalty than it is for life?Because the murderers don't want to be put to death. The fact is death is a deterrent because death is the ultimate punishment. That is why 99% of murderers try to avoid the death penalty.

You're doing mental gymnastics. It is a fact that the death penalty doesn't deter crime. Most people don't think they'll be caught when they commit a crime, and they for damn sure aren't thinking they'll get the death penalty. It does nothing for deterring anything. That being said, it should be used more and not take forever. Bring back ol' sparky, too.

Then why do 99% of murderers want to avoid the death penalty?

Death is always a deterrent. People can be forced to live in sequester. But we avoid death in every possible. The Holocaust was bad because the Germans started to gas people - not simply for locking them up. Death is always much worse.

Murderers don't ever think "I'm probably going to get caught and would much rather do life in prison than receive the death penalty."

That's not logic that they use, which is why there is 0% discernable difference in crime rates. Texas kills more inmates than a lot of western countries and there is no shortage of murder happening there.

It does not deter people from committing crimes. This isn't debatable. You're either trolling or you have no idea how deterrents work.

How can 1 bullet to the head cost more than 20+ years of feeding and housing someone?

Because you have to be sure you are killing the right guy, so they pay a small army of legal workers over the span of 20 years.

And even after a bunch of appeals, the government STILL fukks it up sometimes. It's not worth it. Let them rot.

I know right. Gotta get them black babies killed to benefit society. Plus who needs vengeance? It's hardly justice due to the expense.

I don't care what color they are. Aborting unwanted children has been proven to have a hugely positive impact on overall crime rates. The death penalty has ZERO impact.

And no, I don't think government administered killing because "muh vengeance" is a good justification for a process with no actual measurable benefit. Leave that to chithole countries.

I am only death / life sentence when the evidence proves guilt without reasonable doubt.

In which case there would not need to be any appeals as all precautions and objections and evidence were taken into consideration to arrive at a guilty verdict.

Hell no for my tax dollars going to feeding and housing criminals.

No, not really. I mean, I have no sympathy for those who get it. I'm not going to protest it or anything, just not effective to me. I say, keep them alive but make them wish they were dead.

You have clearly never been selected for jury duty if you think the opinion of 12 random retarts off the street is infallible. I was on a jury once and at least 4 of the other jurors were semi-literate house plants.

You liberals are the strangest and the most twisting flippers of dishonestly to get to your point of few.

Brb genocide is cool for black babies because it makes my country better while rapist murders behead children but shouldn't pay with death.

You are a literal racist cancer to society.

As a conservative (as in an actual conservative with an actual professional background in finance and economics), I am BIGLY against wasteful government spending. Spending many millions on a program that delivers nothing is an insta cut for me. Taxpayer money saved.

And I don't care if you call abortion genocide or try to override logic with whatever emotional appeal you can drum up. We are a country in decline with multiple failing public systems already and cannot afford the luxury of MILLIONS of unwanted children. Again, as a conservative, this is called budgeting.

You want to spend hundreds of millions on the death penalty and billions+ more on unwanted children when, as a country, our finances are already completely fukked. So you can miss me with the identity politics gas lighting.

Don't even need a jury, either there is proof or their insn't.

Example 1: Find Sally's dead body cut up and stuffed in a freezer at John's house. (lives alone)

Proof of guilt.

Example 2: A witness said he saw what he believed to be a man resembling John arguing with Sally in a parking lot the day Sally goes missing to never be seen again.

Not proof of guilt.

I'm theoretically for the death penalty and frankly I think it should be used far more widely than it currently is. First offense child molestation should be a capital offense for example. Three strike violent criminals should have it on the table at sentencing as well.

But the fact of the matter is that the to ensure it is done justly-- that is, with minimal risk of an innocent man being killed-- requires the absolutely absurd appellate system we have in place in America and that results in guys sitting on Death Row for 10+ years clogging up the courts with their *******y appeals that have no chance of success.

I think it's a tricky question, but I think it should be on the table, even if it's not used that often. Basically how it is nowadays.

Would you like the people in Congress to hold the right to decide whether you live or die based on the laws they end up writing?

There shouldn't even be prisons. Why should people be forced to pay to feed and house criminals?

Kill someone = Death
Assault with a deadly weapon = Death
Assault with the intention to inflict severe bodily harm = Death
Selling drugs = Death
Driving drunk = Death
Rape = Castration
Theft = Hand removed
Possession of drugs for personal use = Mandatory rehab
