Pretty much everyone gets screwed on the first contract because you’re not famous yet and you need them more then they need you.
But then once you make it big, you strike it big and get over paid because they need you more than you need them. It just so happens that he turned down the second contract with the huge over pay wheee he could dictate the terms.
Still love Dave, but he’s been a little bit of a bitch recently

Chapelle can go pound sand for all I care. The guy is a self-important multimillionaire who thinks his chit don’t stink.
He also complained like a lil bitch about Key and Peele, and said they stole his ideas.
I’m tired of these incredibly wealthy fuktards going on social media and complaining about their poor little lives like entitled little bitches.
Dave Chapelle has more money than he knows what to do with, he’s good to go. Either watch his chit or don’t. You needn’t be concerned with his wellbeing, because he surely doesn’t give a single fuk about you.
EDIT: Also this whole, “I went to Africa because of Hollywood, and now I’m back and everyone is supposed to venerate me while I complain about everything and pretend I’m better than everyone while I live in Ohio married to an Asian woman” schtick is played out.

I dont see the issue. He made a deal and now has to abide by it. In the beginning he still had to prove himself and probably got a shiet deal. Once he had proven himself he can renegotiate for a higher deal. So shouldn't he have renegotiated for a better deal when the opportunity came?

He just so happens to have more influence than the average misinformed dude on social media.
Dave got notoriety for his ability to understand humor and make people laugh, not for his ability to understand politics, current events and law enforcement/race relations or what ever. The reason most people are misinformed is because they look to influencers like Dave and other celebrities on how to think and what opinions they should hold, just like they look to them for what products to buy, clothes to wear, etc.
No one wants to think for themselves, it's much easier to adopt the common consensus for themselves because it's safe and they won't fall down the social ladder for "wrongthink". That's their comfort zone, and they'd rather shy away from the ugliness of reality and help to keep up the facade.
It is of no good measure to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

It's kinda ****ed that he can't profit off his own IP.
I do agree it was wrong of him to sign the contract, but at the time he was struggling with a newborn with his wife and needed the money. People get jerked around by contracts all the time. Who knew the man would sell the best selling DVD of all time?
Dave is just asking his fanbase to help renegotiate things for him. I'm in full support of the man.
EDIT: Netflix pulled Chappelle's Show in response.

I totally understand and agree with the actor / celeb / athlete hate when it comes to using their platforms on topics they are ignorant of and have no experience with. However, Dave going after the entertainment executives for their incredibly long history of predatory contracts is something I can totally get behind.

The problem is he never surpassed that work. And the reason he's getting future earning is from people that view that show. Boycotting those streams will eventually hurt him. They fooked him over on the contract but they did that to every comedian. If he wanted to bury Paramount he should make a new show and ppl wouldn't care about the old one.

Dave can whine like a bitch about it but the fact is Viacom did him a huge favor. He was unknown on that initial contract, and they could have made any number of comedians famous with that show. Sure, not all are as talented as Dave - but that first contract will never be favorable to you. Later on he could have commanded more money and rights, but just jumped ship.Cliffs:

He's now using his brand and leverage to bully Netflix - which is fine. But to cry about how he was 'screwed' is nonsense, because without that first contract his net worth might be 90% less than it is now

Look at the recent Star Wars movies for example. Those kid actors in the first one got paid peanuts because there were thousands of similar individuals Disney could have just plugged into that role and have the same success. However, once they get that recognition they then can use the leverage to get significantly more money.
Dave was never 'underpaid'. He was paid in other ways - brand building, recognition, and opportunity on a network to have his own show. That led to his current success. You pull the contract/deal and TV show out of that equation and there's a VERY good chance no one knows who he is today

I like Chappelle in general but he's being a whiny *****. He didn't get paid because he broke his contract in the middle of his job and moved to Africa. It goes without saying his agents and managers told him "dude if you do this you're not gonna get your money". He didn't get scammed.

Apparently Netflix took the Chapelle show off their streaming service. Dave signed the contract well in advance of streaming so there’s no knowing this would happen. It’s just a ****ty thing to do to not have control over content that you created. Props to Dave for actually saying something and major props to Netflix to take it off because they know Dave’s worth.
