I read this interesting manga where a lab made this weird organic creature that could eat all garbage and in turn be eaten by humans as a source of meat. The problem was that the creature got out, reproduced at alarming rate and started to eat humans.

The cattle industry actually contributes hugely to pollution and shifting to lab grown meat would be the fastest way to curb all these emissions global warmingcels complain about. Subsidizing lab grown meats would yield far more success than the failure that is subsidizing the green energy sector.

Genetically, the meat is identical to beef so the taste will be the same, the meat can even be gene edited to have more or less marbling than normal meat.

Right now it is too expensive to be brought to mass market but if only politicians would give lab meats a chance, it could have huge positives for the world.

The only downside of reducing the cattle industry would be desertification.

I think there is actually something to it. I eat meat, and I both hunt (trad bow hunt at that) and fish. However I think it’s totally fcked up to kill an animal and not eat it, maybe tan the skin depending on the animal, etc. If there was literally no need for me to do so in order to enjoy rabbit stew or a nice steak ... I dunno’ - it might be hard to justify.

I think it's a great idea if it is just cloned muscle tissue and there's no BS trickery.

If a company can grow meat that tastes good, then will have a lot of success.

I used to be a vegetarian years ago due to the ethical stuff, but stopped because you can't have a strong fit body eating like that, so I went back to meat. However, I would happily eat mostly lab meat if it was good, but I will not eat it if it's gross of bland.

Hopefully I don't have to think about any of this too hard in my lifetime.

Lab grown meat would have to be SUPER legit though, and it better be as good as the real thing. If I have lab grown ribeye but it tastes like sirloin, something has to die I'm sorry.

I get a real thrill out of shooting a rabbit at 20 yards with a super old school bow and arrows I make. I too hope this doesn’t occur too soon.

would give it a try but wouldn't convert my entire meat intake on it though if all forms were available. Seems too early to tell but if found to be safe long term, I think its a great idea. Will definitely fuk over farmers in the end though.

A lot of people are very shortsighted and afraid of change. Once the process is refined and scaled they will put all factory farming out of business. Pumping animals full of antibiotics and continuously artificially impregnating them is as natural as lab meat; the latter however is much healthier, has no suffering and cheaper.

You cannot cling to "natural" while you sit in a temperature controlled room fueled by nuclear power and push plastic buttons on your personal computer powered by components you do not understand. You accept certain pieties of technology yet try to reject others. Cognitive dissonance isn't very healthy.

It will drive down the price of real meat so I guess it’s a win for everyone.

Sure potential future space colonization potential in like 50 years, cool if it works.

I subscribe to the thought we have been eating real meat for thousands of years and will not be the first in line to try something synthetic. Maybe after 10+ years of no negative side effects I would consider it but at that point real meat would be cheap enough to even bother with synthetic.

Why would reducing the cattle industry lead to desertification? If anything lots of forests and jungle areas like the amazon get constantly chopped down to make way for cattle ranges. No hate or anything I'm legit curious to learn about that correlation you mention.

Also this is animal cruelty free, so vegans would have no moral or ethical problems with lab grown meat. I'm down for it 100% as the meat industry is a nasty polluting mess
