The Soviets were just as evil as the Nazis.

I've heard that German soldiers tried to surrender to Americans and the British instead of the Soviets because of this.

How many British and American soldiers died during WW2 and how many Soviets? Was UK leveled and a large percentage of that population slaughtered? If you lost everything, your family, your city and nearly, you wouldn't be any different. Once again, I am not defending it, I am simply saying it's not as simple as that.

The Eastern front was far more brutal than the Western. Russians had already been subject to decades of oppression and slaughter at the hands of their own leaders. The soviets would send soldiers to fight unarmed, sharing rifles, commissars shot their own soldiers who would retreat, there was also the Einsatzgruppen in the East on the German side. Germans and Russians, or possibly actually Nazis and Bolsheviks, seem to have hated each other in a way that Germans and French or Germans and Anglos did not. Germans and French were originally East and West Franks so they shared a common heritage whereas Germans and Russians are more ethnically different and had a longer standing rivalry.

His commanding officer, Major And.. ordered the soldiers to form two lines to rape the 16 year old girls. But he didn't do it, so.. insubordination? This guy probably captured the girls, seeing the smirk on his face.

The reason was not only retribution for what the Germans did during the war.

In some cases they were even worse than nazis. And they did mass rape stuff not only in germany but also here in Poland and other countries they invaded, bunch of savages.

The fact that stories like that are so shocking is that it happened to a civilized 1st world country like Germany. Once the most advanced country on earth Hitler made a mess out of it.

Russia was oppressing his own people for years. They committed more mass murders than the Nazis ever could but somehow they managed to be a part of an alliance of civilized countries like England and the Western European countries.

It wasn’t the Nazis that were the most dangerous it was the UdSSR, as a result we saw the Cold War. It was the American pro communist president Roosevelt that made the decision to defeat Nazi Germany instead of the far more dangerous and powerful Russians. And it was one of the greatest Generals in American history that admitted after the war, that they’ve defeated the wrong enemy.

War is horrible thing and I think only few can understand how it can desensitize your emotions and perception of violence. War creates monsters in humans and it is one of the most difficult things for anyone to not let yourself turn into a person full of hate and emptiness when terrible things happen. Personally I’d only be able to achieve that with a strong faith in God. But everyone must decide their own path.
