They literally were never meant to be taken literally. The closest thing to a literal interpretation is known as “Augustinian literalism” (the name is Christian but applies to all faith scriptures) and even that is only using the exact word as it was understood to the author and milieu in which it was produced to decipher the divine meaning. It is based on St. Augustine’s “literal interpretation of genesis” which is not literal in the way we use it at all.

Only atheists and extreme scriptural fundamentalist read scripture, or assume it to be, literal in the contemporary sense.

No, I haven't; nothing in my post suggests a heavy influence of Islamic culture. Something must fill the absence of religion. It seems paganism runs rampant with idolatry of individuals whom strive to lack the most morals. Instead of worshipping Allah your children worship whoever the LED screens tell them to. I agree, individualism leads to a predatory society where the weak/those in need of help are left vulnerable to exploiters and abusers.

This, you could apply the same logic to anything on tv/internet. I’m assuming they ban all 12+ rated films and shows, so that the youth aren’t corrupted to commit murder etc?

Most of the people who listen to WAP will be the same people who go to church on a Sunday, or who at least will tick the Jesus box in the national census.

You kinda did imply Islamic culture when you said their nations run so well and are on a well defined path. Yeah, a path similar to North Koreas.

Obviously we're not going to go from worshipping gods to nothing in the space of 50 years and be ok. There will be a transition period, just like there is with any cultural shift.

Are you not seeing the return to spirituality, meditation becoming more popular and people realising that scrolling through IG is a path to an unhappy life? Doesn't mean we have to worship some pretend entity and take literally the words of a thousand year old book. It means enjoying each moment and living in the now, and taking care of one another.

Why should marriage be a sacred tradition? We could argue that men by nature are polygamous, but I can't be bothered to go down that route just now.

I agree that we should look for meaning beyond our own pleasures, but religion certainly isn't the answer, as history has shown us.
