Whats the least messiest type of painting to get started in? Im in an apartment so if I try this Ill be painting in my living room.

I know these feels. I only began painting once I got a house. I would recommend you try acrylic. There are a lot of fantastic tutorials on Youtube nowadays. Acrylic paint is water-based and very easy to clean. Even if you get it on your clothing, it easily comes off. Acrylic paints are also much less expensive.

With oil painting, they're quite pricey and you need solvents to clean.

I use acrylic and gesso to create 'under paintings' that I then add oils to. It creates an interesting effect. Here are a few examples of what I mean:



*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

Thanks for the kind words, but I know I've done better. The paintings I posted just above are some of my favorites that came out pretty decently.

That's probably the toughest part, actually getting started. Give it a try. Watch a few tutorials and try to emulate as best you can while internalizing the belief that every artist in the world was once where you are and that 'talent' is simply a pursued interest and not something that just arises from within magically. My goal was to create one painting a week. That quickly became one painting every 2 weeks. I try to aim for once a week on the weekend, but it doesn't always pan out. There's no way I could do daily.
