I keep imagining I'm in an older age, around 60. Health is going downhill, most of family/friends are deceased, lifetime goals never happened, no kids or family. And the worst part is knowing you're too old to do anything about it, not like a video game where you can reload an old save and retry. What's done is done
Copious amounts of alcohol and drugs is great to make those worries disappear

I never fear getting older, srs, and I'm 43, but then again I never truly worry about the future. You sound to me like you need Jesus, srs (I started growing a mustache recently, in part because I'm tired of people treating me like I'm 25, I look young for my age. I believe a mustache can make me look older)

Chances are even at those ages you’ll have things to look forward to. Use to work with a 70 year old who still has to work everyday because he never saved but lived for whoremongering and was apparently happy in his day to day life. Another mid 70s guy I’ve known was marrying a Russian mail order bride of the same age.

Seems like it really doesn’t matter how old you get, you’ll always have things to look forward towards to stop yourself from offing it, no matter if you’re a failure.
If you are talking about suicide, that's not a good idea, some say that if you commit suicide you go straight to Hell, for eternity. Some say a Hell of torment and fire doesn't exist though. The irony, imagine someone killing himself and immediately starts feeling the flames and the heat and he is agony for eternity...wtf...poor soul

truth. i'm have a lot more general knowledge and wisdom from experience, but mental clarity and sharpness are reduced. definite problems with recall- either misremembering or being unable to bring something to mind, like a name or a date.

the internet is an excellent tool for this, though it is flawed for certain.

best thing we have, other than relationships with family and friends.

having experienced the decline and deaths of multiple family members (4 grandparents, both parents) i hope that i have the strength to make a dignified exit in a timely manner and to not burden others with needless pain and trauma.

The thing I most fear about getting old is not being independent. That seems like the worst thing in the world to me.

Only other thing that SUCKS about getting older is dating. Dating is terrible. But if you’re in a happy marriage or LTR you don’t have to worry about that.

Srs I’m late forties now and don’t have any problems at all with my age except for dating. I’m healthy and fit with zero aches or pains. No health issues and I don’t use any meds.
All of this except I had some injuries when I was younger so I have some aches here and there. Other than that I'm fit and healthy AF at 51, no health issues and no meds. Live healthy, exercise and you'll age well.

I think physically I'll be fine, but I'm 90% sure I will go senile at some point and that is what I'm afraid of.

The first sign of me losing my mind is the day I will go out in the woods and let nature reclaim me. Screw being dependent.

I'm a Christian, so I don't really have a fear of death, as ceasing to exist type of death (I don't believe we ever stop existing, we live forever) but I do fear Hell. The good news is that Salvation is by grace through faith, all glory to God

I always like your positive posts.

I think the Op's concerns are natural. At some point everyone must have this passing thought...times running out, Im getting older, my life isn't what I thought it would be, ect.

Our unique awareness (in the animal kingdom) of time and our physical existence is a blessing and a curse. All we can do is live our best lives really. Its good to plan, but don't dwell on the past or the future. Being as present as you can in the moment is the only way to not live in fear of what we can never know...what the future holds. It may sound like hippy dippy **** but their is truth in it.

I'm 46 now, my life is absolutely nothing like I expected it to be in my 20's. However I'm much happier now then I was then. In my 20's I was driven by fear. I joined the USMC and basically didn't need to make my own decisions. My food, housing, and life were completely structured...which I loved. I did well since I didn't try to fight it, I embraced it. Then I went to college after, I did very well driven solely by a fear of failure. I got a job in my field and hated it. Very unfulfillung and low paying. I took a high paying blue collar job and it was rough. I was in my early 30's and decided I had to stick it out. Now, 12 years later, I love my job. I'm well respected, have a ton of laughs, and am knowledgeable. I do work I never thought I would do, make more money then I thought I would, and am married with a nice house.

I still stress and worry at times, but not like the younger me. I try to roll with life vs fighting to control it. Im ok with not having all the answers or knowing every outcome. Make the most of your situation op, change what you can can and accept what you can't. Life will be more fun and less stressful this way.
USMC 95-2000

Do or do not, their is no try! (I made this up myself)

Heidegger says that it is the anxiety produced by man's mortality which drives him to do things with his time. If man could live forever, man would do nothing.
None of the above constitutes legal advice nor should be interpreted as such.

Jesus said do not worry about tomorrow each day has it's own evil, I live by that, worry about today, you don't even know if you'll be alive tomorrow. The concept of worrying about when you'll be 90 or 100...no, in fact, do not worry about anything

If you're afriad of getting old, do things that will keep you feeling young as long as possible.

brief stretching before bed and soon as you wake up. cardio to the point of sweating 5 days a week eating the right foods laying off of recreational drugs etc etc

Yeah this crosses my mind all the time. Already feel like life is half over at 29. Will never make dreams of being a pro athlete come true or have prime party days surrounded by high school/college girls back. Body is falling apart already and can barely do the physical activities I want as it is. If you’re a selfish son of a bitch or not family orientated at all, where do you go from here?

If you get to that age and really hate life that much you can throw yourself over the side of a bridge without worrying too much about all the wonderful memories and happenings the future will bring.

Very unfulfilling and low paying.

Make the most of your situation op, change what you can and accept what you can't. Life will be more fun and less stressful this way.
Thanks for sharing the story with us.

Like everything else in life satisfaction, happiness or peace of mind we must earn and there's no end of our trying as long as we live. *bow*
