Yes.
I voted for Biden, and my girlfriend voted for Trump. Her family is also staunch Republicans and yes have berated me. Have me and my gf had arguments about politics? Absolutely. Do we hate each other for our political opinions? Absolutely not. Unless someone was like really far to the left or the right where it consumes every aspect of their life, you can have normal relationships and friendships with people from the other party. If you can't do that, you're immature AF.

The sticking point with me is letting felons out of prison to reoffend. No way that's okay unless some people are more or less sacrificed to the felons. It's as if some liberals think that letting dangerous felons out of prison is good because the entire self of the kid that the felon rapes just doesn't matter. Said another way: If someone said, "I would sacrifice your childhood to satisfy the sexual needs of a felon so I could let the rest of the world be amazed at my mercy toward the felon," you'd realize that you don't count as a human being. So, an uneasy truce is only possible if you kill your ego every damn day. That's doable, but I'll be hog tied and shot before I ever brought a kid into a world knowing that the kid would be steeped in liberal "mercy" toward felons.

as long as you aren't polar opposites, it's normal to have different opinions but it's important to have enough common ground
being an extreme liberal or leftist and being an extreme conservative isn't just a massive divide in terms of politics. it's a whole different worldview that's bigger than politics but often ventures into things like different morals, religion, worldly values, personality, etc. They are likely to be very different in every sense of the word and would have little common ground that would extend to every day decisions, or how to raise their child. you'd literally disagree on everything which would probably get tiresome over time.
It's not that two people who are politically different on extreme opposite ends couldn't get along, it's that it often comes along and correlated with a whole bunch of other baggage that would not make it work. however most people likely fall within these extremes so there is common ground there.
if a spouse just goes on orange man bad rants at every opportunity or the polar opposite of that, it's probably a sign that they aren't willing to entertain, hear out, understand and just outright belittle and dismiss opposing viewpoints which would manifest itself in other parts of a relationship.

No conservative man is going to put up with the screeching and whining of a liberal woman long term.
No conservative woman is ever going to date a liberal man in the first place.
I dated a liberal once and it was annoying as fuk. The amount of self-righteous hypocritical bull**** that came out of her mouth was unfathomable.
You either convert your woman to your more conservative beliefs or you dump her. Liberal men are real men anyway so they don’t matter.

But we have been friends since middle school so we have been bonded for a while. Politics wouldn't ruin that long of a friendship/we are both super understanding of why the other one feels how they do.
TBH its nice to be able to have an ACTUAL discussion about dissenting opinions.

I'd say if you were a lawmaker and you have people pressuring you in your personal life to pass laws you don't believe in, then that's too much. However, if you work at Walmart and your buddy mows lawns and you're arguing about abortion, it's of consequence.
It's like he's a Star Wars fan and you like Star Trek, it doesn't matter and can be "fun" arguing, if you don't let it make you angry.
However, getting "serious" about stuff you have no control over and what no one is asking you about, is really dumb, and if that's happening, you need to step back and realize.

If you can't see more than one point of view, you're an idiot.
In addition, "felons" are mostly people with drug problems and stuff like that tends to fade in one's 40s, but no let's give them life sentences and keep people in a building for life because they like happy pills.

Ha ha this is my life now. Gf of 5 years is liberal myself I’m very conservative mostly on fiscal topics etc. Care less about things like gay marriage or other social things that liberals wet themselves over. It can be challenging no doubt but in all honesty it’s helped both of our critical thinking skills. Just this morning had good debate about how in Canada some of our first vaccines are going to prisoners. In the end we disagreed but did so with maturity.

(it will not let me post the first part of what I want to say here)
But, these were stupid dudes spouting off stuff like "line em all up an shoot em" which was another type of person where I grew up. Those types, I would say something to.
About felons, working in prison really changed my perspective on the reality that high quality people can end up in jail due to depression, trauma, etc. So, I met all of these abused people in jail and after than, I did not want to see harsh punishments, unless the crime was really weird, and even then, not too harsh.
Also, I live in Philly and it is a MASSIVE abuse and crime town. So, like every other person has a record or drug issue that started in early childhood.
My gf had issues and a very good friend of mine was addicted since age 8. Meanwhile, I am a country boy that did not get abused, I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, etc and I realize that I am VERY LUCKY and so it's my duty to be helpful and understanding.
Naive people think criminals are like "bad guys" from a comic book, which kinda makes them a bad guy too.

Yes of course they can, my big group of friends all have different beliefs and political standings & we'll occasionally joke around - but every time we all hang out its about having fun, being bros, enjoying the time together.. not talking about the stupid sh*t that's being spewed on CNN & MSM.

I'd hope so but from my experience in the past two years, I've seen some really terrible fracas among friends and family members over opposing political viewpoints to the point where relationships were broken and some people even wish harm or worse upon each other. The hatred is so visceral in some quarters sadly. It doesn't help when the opposite side also adds salt to the wounds or censors opposing viewpoints.

Depends on the values those political views are based on. You need similar values to function together in a marriage.
One can certainely support different parties and still have a rather similar outlook on life. One can also not care about politics much at all while having differing opinions.
It's harder in modern day America though, since there are only two parties and the political climate is quite heated.

Some good posts itt. Was more so referring to bf/gf type relationships even tho I wasn’t clear at all. Surely just friends would be way easier, especially between two brahs who could just ball bust about it.
