Never listen to someone who tells you how to think.
Never listen to someone who tells you how to feel.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

My dad is a man of few words, it’s more how he acts with everyone else that has had the biggest impact on me. He treats everyone with kindness and respect, but he will correct you if you’re going down a bad path and gives excellent advice. One thing he said that really stuck with me is when he was about to punish me for something, he said this is going to hurt me more than it will hurt you even though the punishment did hurt a lot I knew he meant it... and I felt worse for disappointing my father and hurting him than the actual discipline I received. He cares about everyone, I’m glad to have inherited this personality trait.

I've talked some chit on my dad in this thread so I'll say some good things about him. He's the most loyal person you'll ever meet as long as your not his wife/gf, he always sticks by what he believes in, he never lies or steals, he is who he is and never apologizes for that and if I ever needed something he'd just give it to me no questions asked. He taught me a lot hunting and shooting too

Don't get fat and make sure I commit time to my health and looks.

Don't rely on males to provide anything for you.

Buy your own ****.

Be picky.

My dad would legit always say that I was ugly in front of his clients/people when they would compliment me. Then behind the scenes tell me that he's only saying that bc he didn't want my head to get too big. lol.

Srs question. Do you feel like him telling you that you weren't pretty caused you to seek out validation from other men since your father didn't give it to?

I think maybe I worded that incorrectly up there to give that impression. He didn't honestly think I was ugly. He would purposely say that to be polite in public. It was always a joke bc my dad thought I was a cocky person. My dad gave me plenty of validation. If anything I'm his 'prized and favorite child' and I think that rubs my siblings the wrong way.

My dad gets up at 5am every single day to hit the gym and lift weights. He gets his clothes dry cleaned and pressed and always buys expensive hair products. He's a pretty vain person. I think he was trying to prevent me from becoming shallow by keeping me 'level headed'.

I misread. I read it as he would tell the other people behind your back he didn't mean it instead of telling you when the other people left.

lmao I would have probably cried so hard back then if I thought he meant it. He use to do this when I was in my teens and very impressionable...

I do remember asking him a weird ass question when I was younger. I was like 14 at the time. I asked him if he would still love me if I became a criminal or a hooker. He took that 2nd occupation really hard and started yelling at me and flipping out asking 10000 questions on why I would think of a question like this. I don't even think I knew what an actual hooker was I just knew it was not a good thing lollll.

If my 14 y/o daughter mentioned becoming a prostitute to me I'd probably have a nervous breakdown so I kinda feel him on that lol

My dad isn't self made like that so I don't have as much to live up to. I'd like to think I'm more well adjusted adult than him
