I've gotten her to take the dog hiking with us on the weekend just about every weekend, but the dog cannot socialize with other dogs. she tries to jump off the leash to go after other dogs.
I can understand your anger, I don't think this dog has been treated properly, and I know I can't just make it be well behaved by yelling. She's not going to get rid of the dog or put her down, and she has no intentions of ever getting another dog
She recognizes that moving to this place was a bad idea and the dog would do better with a house and yard - the place needs some additional renovations and she will rent it out and buy a house soon enough.
for the record the dog has never chit in the diaper, just piss, when it chits on the floor it is doing it on purpose

Can't do it herself, maybe she should pay someone to dog walk. Or put the doggo on a treadmill if you have one. Not gonna lie I feel for the neighbors too if he whines while you're out all day. Unfortunate situation all around but it seems the dog has pent up energy and separation anxiety. Less energy could help with the latter.

As soon as he gets to my dad's house my dad just looks at him and says go home Bear and he turns his happy ass around and starts running back. Girlfriend might need to get a treadmill to put the dog on to get that energy out unless one of you feels like taking up marathoning

If it’s cold out etc puzzle toys can be given. You can take kongs and fill with pb then freeze them. You have to start small, try to vary your routine up leave for a minute or 2 then come back. We are creatures of habit so the dog knows the routine of the human and probably begins to get itself worked up. This can not and should not be punished. As a last resort Dogtra makes a nice bark collar that will adjust the level of correction based on the amount of the barking. In before bark collars are inhumane, people get rid of dogs that cause to much trouble barking more humane to correct the dog and keep it in the home IMO.
Might try a bark collar, then we can take her off the medication and maybe the pissing and chitting will stop - it's not ideal but might be the best way to correct this situation

Just drop her op and get a new gf.

dogs arent like people, people never really change as adults, with discipline and good training methods any dog can change. if op sticks with it he will bring happiness to that sad dogs life, and as mans best friend that doggo deserves it

A codependent is someone who cannot function on their own and whose thinking and behavior is instead organized around another person, process, or substance. Many codependents place a lower priority on their own needs, while being excessively preoccupied with the needs of others.

Let me break this down for you. Your are agreeing with a woman about relationships who in her mid 40s is getting railed in a musty concrete walled dorm rooms by fat teenagers while his friends come and steal her leftovers out of the minifridge.

no homo, unironically theres pretty good reddit threads about it, no homo
i also like to do the thing anytime i am around any type of dog where you space mog them. they are standing in the hallway or whatever and you walk "thru" them. like no u gtfo the way.
i like the post above where they are creating separation while you are actually there so they get used to it.
This is called separation anxiety. It's very common especially in rescues and in dogs who get used to having someone home. There are lots of things you can do and I recommend doing some research on the topic for more advice. Here are few key things.
The most important thing is to make the arrival and departure of humans completely boring every single time. Plan ahead so you can fully ignore him for 15-20 minutes when you leave and when you arrive. Just act as if he is completely not there. This shows him that the party doesn't start when you walk in so he's not anticipating it.
Try crate training if you don't already. Make it a safe space for him by slowly introducing him positively to it. Don't just lock him and leave him for a long time, build up to it. Start by feeding his meals in there with the door open, then shut, then put him in and shut the door and give him a treat, then shut the door and stand for three minutes, then shut the door and walk away for three minutes, then five, then ten. If he starts to bark or whine don't let him out until you get a calm moment. Do the same thing with leaving the house, building up how long your gone and doing the ignoring at the same time.
Don't let him always follow you around the house. Teach him a command like "out" that makes him leave the room and use it to regularly give him alone time even when someone is home.
Exercise like crazy! A tired dog doesn't care if he's home alone. Burn the crap out of his energy levels until he can't stand any more!
Enrich his alone time. Provide him with puzzle toys and activities for when you're not there. Kongs are great and you can stuff them with kibble and peanut butter and freeze them. Frozen beef bones are wonderful too. Think about how to make the stuff last a long time.

That is a huge impact on free time and impediment to relaxation. It’s a big deal and it’s not his problem. It’s unacceptable imo.
If it was OP’s own problem dog then yes he has the responsibility to train it and try to correct the issues and invest his resources. But not someone else’s dog.
The whole purpose of a gf is to improve your life with companionship and fun. Not to take over her problems that prevent your own relaxation and sleep and leisure time.

Hey Gordon and Silencespeaks, this is not a relationship help thread. This is a dog behavior thread.
You both clearly have issues in the way you think about being in a relationship with another human being. I am not interested in the projections of your fragile minds, take it elsewhere.

Growing up I had a beagle that lived in the house. Smart dog. Well trained. House trained. But when he was made at my dad he'd go piss on my dads shoes or go leave a turd next to my parents bed on my dads side.
The dog wants more attention. The crapping/pissing on the floor is most likely a F you towards both of yall.
Unless it has a medical condition and can't hold it. But I doubt that.

This is exactly what I think, but the dog doesn't get attention whenever it wants it. It has to learn to lay comfortably in it's own bed, or she needs to tire her out so that's all she wants to do.Regardless of what anyone in here is saying it sounds like an issue with the dog being pissed off and that's the only thing it can do to retaliate.

She didn’t socialize it and got a high energy dog when that isn’t consistent with her lifestyle. Just read 18 year life expectancy too. For spring-fall I’d get an ebike that’s decent for off-roading. Then you could do street or trails. They are allowed almost everywhere. That dog needs miles of walking/running everyday. I think if his exercise needs were met more consistently, he would be significantly better. 1-3 miles probably barely takes the edge off and would be great for a low energy dog. Yours realistically could use 5+ everyday
I think exercise is probably the answer and you're right.
I don't feel right if I don't get my exercise in, and this dog has exercise in it's dna.

Getting a dog that doesnt match your lifestyle and energy level just makes everyone involved miserable.

She was stupid enough to get a dog breed she knew nothing about, she should be the one who changes her lifestyle to match the dogs.

She will run with the dog, but it's pretty cold in Chicago right now. I run outside myself, but stop when its 20 degrees or colder because my toes get really cold, like numb. I can't imagine that's good for a dog from the south either. She has a treadmill and we will start trying to get the dog to run on it after work today. When the snow thaws, my gf will start running with her dog, she likes to run anyway.
This is the first place she bought, she got it because it was inexpensive and suited her needs (or so she thought), but her plan is to renovate (80% done) and rent it out, then buy another place, and rinse and repeat every 2 years or so. The next place she buys is already planned to be a house with a yard due to the issues with her dog, but I don't see it happening until the summer, late spring at the earliest.
