I actually do prefer what OP is doing than people who get their slabs of meat in cellophane from the store, but what he's saying to justify it is cope. Harming animals and making them suffer and saying a flying man in the sky told you to in an old book doesn't make you a caveman, it makes you an a$$hole.
Flying man in the sky? Please explain

And please note that animals generally don't die from old age. Animals suffer in the wild brutally when they die. Predators don't care that something is dead when they start to eat it. A bullet or arrow and a 20 yard sprint is pretty humane compared to the hours and sometimes days it takes for a deer to bleed out or die of sepsis once a Coyote tears the ass out of it.

Stick around the thread, I think you'll find your perception of what I do changes

That's an odd psychology you have there, brah.

Anyhoo, OP, I'm beginning to wonder if neck shots aren't the way to go, at least with whitetail?

I've begun processing without gutting (likehttps://youtu.be/a2bo23n16tI) and the neck meat is about the only meat you don't get to that way, unless you want organs of course.

Neck shots as effective as shoulder, in your opinion?

OK got it. I guess you do have way more odds going for the chest. We got one or two this year in the neck and it worked out, thankfully.

I don't have a truck, own my properties, live off grid in a house I built myself. I usually use a bow for big stuff, but did take one with a rifle this year. But you are right. Modern conveniences stack the odds. I also am going out in the bush for a week this Friday to live in a canvas tent and trap beaver off snowshoe...

I also butcher everything myself

I also think that choosing to get wild meat locally from the bush is a great idea if you are able.

Nature also didn't intend for us to fly in airplanes, build roads, and drive cars either.

But I bet I am a lot closer to the natural cycle of things than you are.

Well, I guess that I don't need to be killing stuff to enjoy it.

I put up wood duck boxes to help them out, I move turtles off the road, and love watching deer outside of hunting season.

I see the value in animals whether on the plate or not.

I know that animal feels pain, and do my best to kill humanely.

I also enjoy the whole thing immensely.

Two sides to every coin.

Their hatred is from mostly a lack of understanding, and also from people being alienated from what goes into their food for so long. Killing is bad, right?

People questioning this stuff is a true indication that the world has way too much comfort and not enough reality these days. No one works for their food anymore, so they are more invested in the emotional aspect of taking the animals life than the reality aspect that every day people live, animals die. This is just how you do it when no one does it for you.

What technological device are you using to post this?
How is electricity reaching your place? Internet?
How often do you buy new clothes and various other items?
You drive a car?
How often do you travel?
etc. etc. etc.

If you live, you cause death, especially if you participate in the modern world. Good on you for taking a stand and not eating animals, I assume you are a vegan, but quit judging people from a non existent moral high ground.

I may have missed this, but do you eat the bear? How does it even taste?

Mirin' fish catch. I went ice fishing once and 'caught' a walleye and I remember it being a cool experience. Delicious meat too.
