Imagine going on a one way trip mission?
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

You know what really is an "embarrassment" is your height.
Yeah, spending 2.5 billion dollars with no real plans to bring the samples back is sad. SpaceX will do more in less time and with less money.

Yeah I’m a real dumbass for being able to compare the time and cost of a government funded mission to what private industry is doing. Any idea what NASA spent for each space shuttle launch?

How’s that SLS program going? 10 years and 20 billion dollars and they have almost nothing to show for it. Meanwhile Blue Orgin and SpaceX are making real progress in a fraction of the time and cost.

Pretty sure this is all for the US's interest in space, we're looking to set up possible Space Force operations on Mars, not actual living.

Mars is the new Moon, people want to see what it has to offer, or what they can mine from it.

Next 15-20 years, I'm guessing we'll see more wars fought in space and maybe on another planet.

Not enough oxygen to let you last very long but it could be done.

Crazy to thing about it but terraforming might really happen there. I often wonder what it will look like 1K years from now.
Meaningless atm,no engine to push us fast enough to not die on the way to closest galaxy, anything outside solar system will take forever, mars is just another piece of lifeless planet, what they've achieved with landing on moon?70 years later still nothing.
I'm all in for progress but fundamentals not covered.you can sail across atlantic on boat too but aircrafts are better.

NASA is breaking all kinds of new ground here. The rover is mainly a next-gen version of Curiosity from what I've read, but it also comes with a helicopter called Ingenuity that will be attempting the first ever powered flight on another planet. That's fukn cool

Also it kinda sounds like an easy thing to do, but Perseverance should be sending back the first audio ever from Mars. Only two spacecraft have ever traveled there with microphones, one crashed and the other's microphone/camera were never turned on because of potential electrical issues

https://www.space.com/mars-rover-per...ding-explained

“Much of the design — and the spare parts that make up the new rover — come from Curiosity.”

So yeah, its exciting and it obviously has new and upgraded stuff but it’s not like they started from scratch. But my point is we will never set foot on Mars if we rely on NASA.

Meanwhile SpaceX is building:

-the largest rocket and flying object ever
-they are doing this way faster and cheaper than NASA could ever dream of doing
-they aren’t just going to be building a few of them there will be dozens or hundreds of them
-fully reusable
-drilling gas wells on site for quick and cheap rocket fuel
-building ocean launch platforms out of old oil rigs.
-NASA literally pays them to send crew and cargo to orbit now because NASA can’t do it themselves despite billion in funding

Either with your main or alt account pls explain to me how NASA isn’t a huge failure of an agency when you consider the time and budget they work with. Especially compared to the progress private industry can make in less time with less money.

I'm guessing once we have the ability to go below the surface they may find items worth mining. But maybe not.
