Like I said, brake pad change are fine if you are some what mechanically inclined(7/10). If lower than that you need take it to a shop or do some serious research before tackling it.
Lol, I work at a dealership and we never use torque wrenches. Zap it on with an electric impact or ratchet.

I work at a dealer and I can tell you that most places, the good techs, the one's you want to work on your car isn't the one doing oil changes and usually not brake jobs. That's given to grease monkeys. Either they don't have the experience or they aren't capable of doing anything else. Might be a few that are good, but not many. They aren't pulling me off a diagnostic job to do some brakes or an oil change.

Pro-tip: Get to know who's who where you go and request the guy you know is about it to do all of your work. SRS being requested even to do some petty crap we don't mind.

Lmao at people having to pay $500+ dollars to change out a $30 part.

Literally could do it and barely get dirty. Hardest part is taking the wheel off.

I would immediately stop letting the grease monkeys work on the brakes if you value your job. One lawsuit is all it takes, bb.

If you really can't do it, just watch a youtube video on your vehicle. It's a very basic job, and a basic socket set and c clamp will get the job done. Jacking up a car and placing it on a jack stand should be a requirement to pass a driver's license test.

Jacking up a car is only necessary for people in emergency situations where they need to quickly replace a tire to get out of the road shoulder. But working on a car for long periods of time with little understanding of safety is putting yourself at risk to get seriously hurt, especially when you don't have much experience working on cars.

All I'm saying is, take safety and precaution seriously for the DIY folks. It's not a joke.

Wouldnt advise rando clowns to jack their car up and go under it experimenting. Legit had an uncle of a friend get crushed doing that in his driveway and die. But as another said, being able to routine maintenance (brakes, oil etc) is something every man should know.

JFL at taking your car in so some scumbag mechanic can purposefully fuk your car up and tell you it came that way, fix it and make you pay, all because business was slow that day. Go watch those undercover videos where they put mini cameras all under the hood, and record scumbags breaking chit and lying to customers and making them pay thousands. It's a widespread problem.

Hah This pisses me off so ****ing bad, you can hand tighten everything with oil and they blast everything with impacts instead. I have done changes where im pulling so hard on the ****ing oil filter wrench or even the drain bolt with 2 hands im half certain im going to pull the car right off the jacks stands and kill myself

Brakes.. if you dont have experience with cars... could be risky.

Agreed.

Got quoted $750 for brakes & rotors once.

I LMAO'd in the guys face, drove to AutoZone, paid $35 for pads, and did it myself in 25 minutes.

Brb, essentially paying myself $1450/hr to do my own brakes.

Wat? And actually growing your own crops is goat level stuff too.

Some just don't understand, its not really about the money, its about pride and getting things done right, growing as a man. Saving money is just a nice extra.

If you ENJOY doing that stuff, or it's a HOBBY, sure. Feel all the pride you want and go wild.

I would literally rather pay someone 600$ (what it cost me last time) to do my breaks than do it myself, and I absolutely know how. I used to do it when I was younger and far more poverty. I used to change my own oil back then too.. Now I sit in my car while someone else gets all fuking dirty doing it for me, shoving food into my face and browsing the misc.

But like.. my whole drive to make more money stems from the fact that I absolutely don't want to do that type of chit myself, because fuk getting dirty when I can pay someone else to get dirty for me.

Nothing about outdoor work or fixing cars is vital to "Growing as a man". You can take pride in anything you do (and should). Again, if you enjoy it, go wild, but acting like people who don't do it themselves are less of a man is stupid ape think.

I hear ya and agree, as long as you know how. That's the point I'm trying to make.

95% of people taking their car in to get brakes done don't know how to do it themselves and are too afraid to learn because of scarecels saying its a life or death situation. You'd have to be a buffoon to fuk em up for basic cars. I'm also serious about scumbag mechanics purposely messing up your car and making you pay to have it fixed. Im a conspiracycel so i just like to do things myself when i can.

Not only that, but the front hubs are bolted into the rotor. You need to pound out the wheel studs to separate the hub and rotor. I mean it's not terribly difficult, but it can be messy from the bearing grease and it's more work than just sliding a rotor off.

I did it once while converting from full time to manual locking hubs. That was about 4 years ago. Might need to do the brakes again this year lol.

If you can’t afford a $500 brake job and are trying to “save” on something you do every 5 years then you shouldn’t even have a car....

Never touched the hood of my car crew*

That's everything. HVAC guy charged me $400 to pop a new $15 capacitor in. Water heater was $2500. Lord help you if you ever need a plumber.

I had a buddy who was a master mechanic at Dodge like 10 years ago, and he would tell me how he'd change a fuse or fix chit in 5 mins and bill the customer 10 hours labor. He did that every day and was making like $250k/yr just scamming people. He said everyone that worked there did it and they all worked together in one massive scam.
