Everyone is replaceable no matter what. People think they do **** good or that nobody else can do their job is a bunch of bull. CEOs can be replaced, executives all the way down to the little man. Do what makes you happy. I know so many people who may make a lot, but they say the stress and health issues isn't worth it. They rather work for less but have more happiness that comes along.

Imagine giving a company notice that wouldn't give you notice of your impending firing.

Just quit. No notice. Even better set timer for email at 4AM putting idiots on blast company wide. Don't go in ever again. I did this in 2018 and life is much better. You already have a backup. I did it with nothing and now have a business making more money and a lot of it is cash transactions so I can tell the government to fuk off. I get an old co-worker that comes in to the store and he says they're still talking about me at the office. That was 2.5 years ago. Kind of a similar situation except they eliminated the IT manager position I was being groomed for and had us report to someone 400 miles away. Fuk em.

I dont see how helping your mom could ever be regretted so if that appeals to you more than working for a company that doesnt care about you enough to recognize you in 10 years of service, then I think its a fine idea.

i was in those shoes about 2 years ago, put in for an availability change to work less to spare my sanity, they refused so i just said that it was my 2 weeks notice. after 11+ years there, called out probably a single-digit number of times in all those years, covered everything they ever asked me to cover, not one boss spoke a word to me until they paid me out on the way out the door.. kinda answered all my questions about whether or not i was doing the right thing. if you're typing the words that you typed in the OP, i think you know in your heart that you don't want to work there any more.

imo, quit and help your mom out, it'll probably be good for your soul even if you're making less

She's mentioned several times that she hopes either I or my brother's will take over the company due to how much she makes.


I'd like to quit my job and help my mom with her work.
I'd be taking a pay decrease, but might feel more satisfaction helping my own mom as opposed to working for a company that would replace me in a minute if I quit.


Thoughts?

I would hand in the letter if you are truly prepared to walk away. They may offer a slight increase but I doubt it'll be a game changer and they definitely aren't going to hand you a promotion on the spot. Anything they say about a promotion being in the pipeline you should take with a grain of salt. Also don't stick around in your mom's business for too long if it isn't booming.. the gap in your resume could be disadvantageous.

Spoke to my mom tonight more about it.

We came to an agreement that I'd put a notice in after my PTO renews March 18.
Company pays out unused pto.
In the meantime I'll work for/with her 2 days a week on my days off.

Right now she said she COULD take on more work but physically cant, so me hopping on board would help her business make more $$
She already does VERY well for herself. And doesn't have a mortgage.
Gotta respect her hustle.

I typed out my resignation. And asked to speak to my boss in her office. As we got in, and before I could hand her my paper she says to me.... "You know you're being transfered to [new location] March 20th"

I said "wuuuuuut???"

The kicker, my PTO renews March 18th so was planning on staying till that week. Then quitting because my company pays out unused pto.


Location I'm being transfered to has a much better reputation and evidently HER boss wants me there because it's got better potential.


Unsure of what to do bros

And they just now decided to tell you that you’d be moving in 3 weeks?? No input from you about the move or anything? Sounds like more of the same from their end, but I can understand how it could be tempting. I tend to lean towards following through with your original plan. There’s a reason you actually reached the point where you typed up a resignation letter. Unfortunately if you do it’s gonna be kind of awkward now because of their new proposition, but that’s not your fault, it’s theirs. And if you decide to take it you’ll have to have a tough conversation with your mom. Not sure if you’re a spiritual person, but if so I’d recommend praying on it and asking for guidance. If you’re not then try to clear out your mind and listen to you conscience. You probably already know what you should do, it’s just that the uncertainty is kicking in because it’s such a big decision.
