Make around 110k. Still renting, buy whatever I want (but that's mostly just good food) whenever I want. Between retirement investments, brokerage investments, and bank, have around 475k saved up. It's not that hard, unless you have lots of student loans or kids.

Rent was $1500 for 5 years, but just moved to a nicer place that's $2000 so I don't live in a cheap city either.

In my area, you can make sub-$100k and still save $2000-3000/month.

If that isn't surviving, how does one survive?

Well I'm certainly not living a "Baller" life style, and you won't on 100k either (unless single), so I definitely agree with thebold. But my life style is far from "barely getting by". I own the chit I want to own, and need/want for nothing. I never have to be the guy who says/feels "too expensive.. can't afford that" in day to day life, or when friends/family want to do chit that costs money.

Every time I got a salary increase, then everyone else gets higher than me.

When I got raised to $60k everyone made $100k. Now that I'm at $120k everyone is at $200k.

I bet when I get to $200k I'm sure everyone will be at $400k.

UK and USA quality of life is not different, barring superficial stuff.

London average salary is almost 39 000 GBP, almost 54 000 USD.

In NYC (real USA example compared to London) is 67 000 USD.

Account additionally for the fact that every service costs more in the USA (but some things cheaper) plus what you need to spend extra that you pay for via tax in the UK. The difference in the holiday as well etc needs to be taken into consideration.

And you will see overall a very similar picture.

All of my statements are from the Office of National Statistics (UK) and the Bureau of Labour Statistics (USA). To be fair that proves TBO1313's point that a lot of miscers simply fraud.

This is what my girlfriend does. She gets a vice president salary plus commission on multi million dollar sales, and it's TRIPLE pay after 150% of annual goal . She usually has no problem hitting 200% with her team. She sells software to large corporations.

We still save money too.

I don't know how the **** people can make 100k a year and barely get by unless they live in one of those crazy areas where a 1 bedroom chithole costs like 2500$

My theory is most are just chit with money, stuck in that stupid keeping up with the Jones's lifestyle Spending waaaaaay to much money on chit for the sake of status, like jewlery(read: Watches), new phone every edition, expensive clothing and shoes that get worn like 3 times a year. $60k + car used to drive to work or the gym.

So yeah, if 100k isn't enough to survive you're either terrible with money, a vain status junkie, or live in a cucked area where housing costs are fuking you over.
Because people suck with their money and live AT their means no matter how much they make. “CoOl I make 100k now I can have a $1200 car payment!”

Home improvement projects are the new car payment for making the middle class broke

BRB own less than 10% of an asset, taking out debt to improve it at a rate less than the debt taken out for it

Don't think any benefits honestly, she's really respected as an executive. Her last job she was head of global sales but she didn't like being away 3 weeks of every month on business deals. Then she ran the americas and now she runs half the US. She has 0 tech experience but is really good at building sales teams. She has a lot of connections and moves to where the money is, corporation to corporation.

I used to be a wagecel like all the cubiclecels and every week I would have to break my check up into catagories for bills/food/gas etc and after all was said and done I'd have like 100 bucks each check maybe to out into savings. Its was a sad life.

Now I casually spend wagies bi weekly checks on turbo parts.

Probably works out because in the UK people spend less on health care and education/student debt. I've heard that they also have lower food prices, lower cell phone charges, and cheaper flights.

$100k = $75k after maxing out tax deferred accounts.
$75k = $56k after federal taxes
If you live in a state with income tax take out more.

Have to remember when they were your age they could afford a 4 bedroom white picket fence home and schooling for 3 kids on a single factory worker income

They don't fathom inflation
