Srs, tho, the archaeological excavations do support the basic trajectory of the story. The Greeks loved to exaggerate but it's how it went down.

My recollection is that Persian arms and armor were made of inferior materials, including wicker. I've been to Thermopylae and they show you were the waterline was in ancient times. Combined with Spartan training, 300 men holding the pass in hand-to-hand combat indefinitely is totally believable.

I hiked Samaria in August and just barely made it into the tall shady stretch before 2:00pm when the sun was in broil mode. It was pretty bad and I was carrying a day pack with water.

Being the aggressor and carrying military kit in Greece mid-day in August is probably no joke.

I don't think it was all meant to be taken literally.
Interpret it through the framing story: Leonidas intentionally sends the best orator back to warn them. So the movie we're watching is the crazy story he tells when he arrives to terrify everyone into action: demonic warriors, obscenity, exotic beasts.
Nah, fukk that. Iโ€™m not doing that.

I know Ancient Rome had very unreliable historians and sources on historical events. Like it took nearly 40 years or something for people to report on the Battle of Zama and this was a time when life expectancies were much lower.

What's funny is the Samurai Tards don't realize Japan themselves abandoned the Katana for European Sabres.

On YouTube there are Katana vs Saber fights. Sabers always win because most sword fights come down to defensiveness, agility and range and a weapon that has all 3 is OP.

Even some spear vs sword fights out there too and spears usually win all the time. People watch Video Games and think that you can easily deflect a spear with a sword, lmao .

So no legitimate proof.. It's not always the victors who write history

when the huns defeated the late roman empire, the ancient roman historian said romans were outnumbered but the modern historians disputed this claiming they were trying to save face. Same thing happen with the greeks probably lol

Both W. And E. Rome abandoned heavy infantry for a cavalry based army supported by chainmail light infantry. This was a meta shift due to how Rome needed more mobility due to rebellions and such.

The modern analogy is maybe how South Vietnamese army on paper was very strong but it was geared towards anti-insurgency and then got pummeled when North Vietnam, who was preparing for a conventional war for years, invaded. Likewise I have a feeling Ukraine is going to fall victim to this too.

Spartans were the same as today's Navy Seals so it wouldn't be that far fetched tbh.

Based on their formation/terrain it would have been like Omaha Beach on Normandy. There was one German Soldier who got like 1000-2000 kills and there was 300 Spartans.....
