According to the California Business and Professions Code Section 16600, “every contract by which anyone is restrained from engaging in a lawful profession, trade, or business of any kind is to that extent void.” In other words, non-compete agreements are not enforceable in California.

Would not work a job that says you can’t do your side hustle. Especially not for $60k... not to say that’s a bad salary, but it’s a bad salary to give up your freedoms.


If anything OP use this as a short sacrifice to build your resume. Keep improving your skill set, live below your means and save that money. This should just be a short term job AT MOST

What the misc doesn't realize is the cost of benefits. That's a huge added bonus with your new job. Also, your work/life balance, if that is important to you, will likely improve. That is why tradies are so happy... good pay, easy schedule, and if they want to make more, the opportunity is there. Owning a business has to be a passion or else you will hate it and burn out.

To clear the air they dont know about my side business at all, i didnt say a word, it was just on the non-compete so i got a bit upset when i saw it on there, but JMS is right the benefits alone outweigh a lot, medical, dental, life insurance, vision, 401k...etc, I was broke for many many years, in the negative in my bank account, for me this is great. Plus 65k goes a long way in Texas.
