I did HVAC out in Arizona one summer for a big company and we had our vans running from 7am to 7pm. Most service guys do the same thing. This truck wouldn't last

May work for exterminators and cable guys though

I like the concept. They should do the same with the Ranger.


My big issue with going electric is the handicap of only being able to drive a few hundred miles before needing a charge. So cool, I can drive in my area no issue. But what happens if I need to take a road trip farther then my charge can handle? Am I going to have to find a charge spot and pull over and sit for like 4-6 hours while it charges? What happens if I need to go to a rural area? I gotta rent a car or truck?


This truck works for white collar guys who want a truck to drive around daily. Doesn't work for tradesman who actually need a truck for work.

I have a boat but don't usually tow it over 80 miles. So would work for most uses. But I have a paid off 2017 Ram and don't want payments so probably just gonna keep it for 20 years or until gas is like 17 dollars a gallon so the cost of the EV pays off. Plus I like loud noises and my truck is loud

Everyone in the city just HAS to have a pickup for some reason. Those perennials at lowes need a 6ft bed to be safely transported.

Glad I have a vehicle with a v8. My next car will be a v8 too. I don't want to drive an oversized rc car.

Some guys like driving fast cars, some like driving big trucks. As a daily driver in a city goes, my preferred is a good midsize SUV. Jag F Pace, Grand Cherokee, Ford Explorer, BMX x5, etc.


But as a whole I just really enjoy driving trucks. Give me a F250 with 38-40" tires and a lift kit and a small town/back roads any day of the week.

This is a truck for the type of people who drive electrics, not an electric for the type of people who drive trucks

The only truck traded in for one of these will be a Honda Ridgeline.
They got little baby legs that stand so low
you got to pick 'em up just to say hello.

Only time you will catch a tradie driving these is if its a company truck. Seriously doubt you'll see one as a personal vehicle.

Yea I agree. Can drive whatever suits you. I prefer trucks too but where I live atm I just wouldn't be able to use it for stuff that I'd like to such as offroading/hauling dirt bikes etc. The only use I could justify a truck for would be towing jet ski or a boat since I live at the beach.

There will always be cases where gas/diesel is better. Battery charge time and capacity isnt there yet. I do see a utility though.

Company wide we have a fleet of 800 light vehicles with GPS tracking on most of them, and more than half of them average less than 125km/day.

Unless you think you can lift a copper cord 5 inches thick, 5 min charge times are never happening. Not to mention the cost of that cord would be in the 10s of thousands.

Many of our on-site trucks probably rack up minimal miles week over week, but they're also sitting outside often running constantly in -20 to -40 temps during the winter

And then between shifts they'll sit for up to a week without being used, in a congested parking lot with 100 other vehicles and zero charging infrastructure. Battery charge levels and capacity/performance degrade slowly even when not in use, so it would be interesting to quantify their efficiency in set-ups like ours


Wouldn't be surprised if I'm retired before these EVs become common on our sites (srs)

Agreed, like I said EV tech isnt there yet. Its coming with time though.

My next new vehicle will be electric for sure. 95% of the time I drive 50 km a day then park in a 3 car garage at night. Even in the depths of winter the 500km capacity vehicles are still experiencing 300km of range. My neighborhood is starting to fill with Teslas, most builders are putting in higher-amp services and charging stations in new builds.

It will be a long time before I am without a gas vehicle as well though, you still need it for longer trips and the flexibility to fuel and go in minutes.

The DVD is the eventual path the technology led to, so:

Started at VHS tapes - LaserDisk came out - DVD came out and made laserdisk worthless - Streaming make DVD worthless

Started at gas engines - Ev's come out - Hydrogen vehicles (or other) comes out and makes EV's worthless - Gravity bending vehicles make hydrogen worthless.

Bottom line EV's will never be accepted by the masses if you have to wait more than 5 minutes to recharge every ~400 miles. (the equivalent to filling the tank). People today require instant gratification. Ain't no one got time to wait for their car to charge up.

I think the question will come down to the ROI of installing charging stations for a fleet.

The ROI math wont work on retrofit a lot of times in residential. I think new-builds will lead the charge.
