New Ford electric F-150 announced (TRADIES GTFIH)

2022 FORD F-150 LIGHTNING

Ford has revealed the F-150 Lightning, an all-electric version of its popular pickup truck due out in 2022, and it’s aggressively priced for an EV. The base model with230miles of range starts at$39,974, while the extended range version starts in themid-$50,000sand can go about 300 miles.

What does the misc think? I love this for Ford, they're going to sell a chit ton of these. Tesla cybertruck is priced around the same at ~$40,000, while the Hummer EV is expected to start at ~$80,000.

Read an article earlier how Ford put some effort to make sure this electric F150 can haul/tow without performance degradation. Will be interesting to see how real world experiences play out. I’ve got friends with EVs (Tesla and leaf) and that battery pack can run down fast if floor it or have a bunch of things going (ac for example).

The big metric is load and towing capacity for these vehicles. If that suffers their main demographic isn't going to buy one.

Battery technology is the single biggest crutch of EVs. Solid state batteries are coming along.

Tradies simply won't buy this vehicle. They bill there time and fuel into every job, They won't be waiting to charge there f150 at a job site while there diesel skid steer that the truck can barely pull sits and waits at a job site not making $.

Not to mention they have to stop for diesel for the skid loader on the way.


This is perfect for the dad with kids that pulls his bayliner to the boat launch 8 times a year at his cabin.

This is legit. Ford came out swinging with this EV F150. $50k is very well priced for the 300m range.

Not a tradie but own a truck - it's an EcoBoost which, inexplicably, gets a bad rap because it's not a V8 and "doesn't sound like a truck". I understand that argument with a muscle car, but I'll never understand that with a truck. It's purpose is work. I'm not really interested in MPG in a sports car, but in a daily driven truck - yeah, it'd be nice to not go broke at the pump but only if the engine performs like a truck should.

TL;DR - if it can do the work, then why not? Ego? Little man syndrome?

Saw a post from a friend earlier (die hard Ford guy) saying that the fully loaded towing range is down around ~100 miles. Das not even close to it mayne.

Just lol @ up to 90K for a vehicle that when towing, most likely can't go further than 150 miles.

The real rug pull will come when the guy that buys the 90k electric truck looks to trade it in and gets 20k because nobody wants to buy a used electric truck and have to incur the major cost to replace the battery soon after.

This generation of EV's is just like the laser disk. Cool for a little bit, but when the DVD comes out, you're holding a worthless asset.

Honestly I would just trust the V8s build quality/reliability to be better over time then the ecoboost.

Everyone is looking at a truck the way they use it in commercials, which is a fraction of actual use.

Fleet buys, people doing service calls, exterminators, cable guy, gas company, that kind of thing is an enormous market. These things will sell.

Remember it’s only a half ton. Most people don’t use them to tow anyways.

This would work great for fleet use. Getting guys to the jobsite with tools and whatever and back.

It won’t replace the 3/4 ton and up trucks but I wouldn’t doubt that Ford will sell a lot of them seeing that it’s competitively priced with its base model half tons that every company buys to move their guys around.
