Do you think humans are inherently good or bad?

I think we are born neutral. We are then molded, to a certain extent that is limited by our genetics, by our environment.
But what scale are we using to determine what is good or bad anyway? Someone in the USA might be considered a bad person, but in the middle east would be a normal/good person, and vice versa.

Personally believe humans are born neutral, however there are issues/defects where they can be on either side of the spectrum.
The rest is due to nature and nurture.

We will forsake the needs of others to a great extent for the benefit of what we currently see as our in-group. Of course that definition can be changed and is in constant flux (consider your high school sports rival now on the same State team. And your State rival come time for the Olympics!) This is now being exploited by foreign governments as they convince people that there are only 2 groups of thought on everything (and those other idiots are wrong!)

Most individuals are good I believe. There are some that are purely bad and if enough of them are in position to influence a group then the groups will follow in kind.
I’d say 70% good
30% bad
I’d say 70% good
30% bad

What is the standard for good and bad?
If the benchmark for morality is God, then we are all wretched/evil because perfection is unattainable.
If there is no God, there is no benchmark and there is no good or bad because its all subjective.

“The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained”

Mostly good, morally speaking. Though many consider us bad/evil in the sense that we take advantage of natural resources, slaughter less advanced animals for food, and destroy entire ecosystems in the process. We're a race of conquerers, but it's true that there are simply too many of us for the earth to sustain 8 billion+ people while maintaining harmony with nature (no GA guidestones). Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of vegans secretly think humans are inherently evil for these reasons

Regular people will do terrible things to other people that they have been told are bad by an authority figure. They typically don’t need evidence of wrongdoing either. This has been tested over and over again. I think that humans have great capacity for both but will choose the path of least resistance 99% of the time. Unfortunately the easy path is often the evil path.

Humans are only as good as society’s circumstances allow them to be.
Everyone likes to think if they lived in 1930’s-40’s Germany they’d be the ones to free some of the Jews and stand up against Hitler. When in reality the statistical likelihood that you’d do that is almost zero. You’d keep your mouth shut to keep you and your family alive.
Think about the atrocious acts you’d commit against your own neighbors if society had a financial collapse and there was a food shortage and you had to murder your friends so your family doesn’t starve to death. A lot of people have no idea of the evil they are capable of if sh!t really hits the fan. The things you will do to survive are almost unthinkable.

I guess I'm asking this question on the basis of a perfect world - everyone born under the same circumstances with equal wealth/opportunity/etc. and social class didn't exist. With all things being equal, would we still see evil in this world? Is it human nature to work towards a higher social status, regardless of having acess to all necessities in life? Are we all susceptible to greed even with unlimited resources in life?

At my core I’m not a good person. I have 0 empathy. I don’t really understand feelings so to speak. But I do care about my immediate family I guess. Like I wouldn’t cry when they die. Never cried when my mom died. When dad goes I won’t happy at all it’ll definitely hurt.
But it’s weird because all that being said id take a bullet for them in a heartbeat. So I must care. So immediate family id do anything for but In regards to anyone else on the planet...0 empathy. If I had to step over dead bodies on the way to work no big deal. But I’m sure Most people are the same

Either way, it doesn't matter when you meet the real bad guy face to face.
You may try to say, "I believe in mankind being fundamentally good. So Mister, please don't...."

But alas........he can't understand any of what you'd be trying to tell him.

I think genes and how people are raised play major roles in how shtty or good people become. Some people are psychopaths from birth and nothing can change that.

depends on the person.
my son since the day he was born is always smiley and shares everything he has. he could be eating a cookie that he loves, but if someone asks him for it, he would give it to them. He would give it to others even if he's been starving.
we had to teach him to be more selfish. we tell him NO NO NO. it's yours. it's YOURS. don't give to others.
now when someone comes to eat his food he screams, "MINE!" he does this with his toys and everything else lol.
innately, he's very sweet and good.
