Michael Jai White is a thing, even though he isn't Asian. Based martial artist though.
It might also be because MMA fighting styles become culturally predominant and more practical and effective for real fighting. Kung Fu and Taekwondo look impressive as hell, but if you've ever been in a fight in real tea, you know flashy spinning kicks telegraph from a mile away and just don't hit with any showstopping power.

Back off, Warchild.
Seriously.

I feel like where Martial Arts in general didn't have the exposure it does now (UFC, more commercial gyms for MMA) that these older films were always a bit of a 'wow factor' based on it being the 1% club.
Now people can watch MMA fights every week on most TV subscriptions the appeal to watching someone flip and fly kick through 40 people has gone. I think people wanted to believe it was possible to do this but seeing people fight for real with those styles (Muay Thai etc) they see it isn't how it's portrayed in the movies. But Jet Li/Van damme/Tony Jaa films will always be worth a watch for me.

- the Hongkong movies, which were the basis of these Kung Fu films and were many of them started out are gone (China is slowly taking over, Hongkong is not as free and they are economically entangled with mainland China)
- China produces cheesy CGI films with oversaturated colors instead
- Western stunt directors lack the know how of filming great life action stunts
- the action genre is already oversaturated with CGI heavy superhero films

Donnie yen (although he's old). Tony jaa has a great path going but he Def fell into alot of crappy American cinema movies and the omg bak series went bananas.
I'd say the best modern version we got was the guys doing all the raid movies.
