Why are there no Jackie Chan/Jet Lis this generation?

Those movies were so fun to watch growing up.

Because people came to the realization that traditional martial arts aren’t as kick ass as those movies made it seem. The karate kid is most likely gonna get beat by the boxer kid or the wrestler kid.

True. I don't know what to call it but when some kung fu guy flies through the trees, shoots energy beams out of their hands, people used to just think it was cool and enjoyed it but a millenial goes "Ah that's fake". Like no duh it's fake. But maybe it makes millennials feel more woke

Also don’t worry about next generation of action stars, Logan Paul will lead the way as he progresses from dominating the boxing world to dominating the box office.

The best martial arts movies are being made in Indonesia in modern times.

Tony Jaa and Uwais made some good stuff, but yeah definitely nowhere near Jackie/Li. I don't think they were as good of actors outside of martial arts.

I don't think teenagers are millennials but yea interesting that millennials can watch a drag race where the guy doesn't floor it until he's about to lose, but if someone wins a fight without using jujitsu it's just unwatchable

Agreed. He made the best martial arts films ever made imo

I believe he went off the deep end and did "black magic" for awhile before later just appearing as a side character in bullchit Hollywood films that didn't really capitalize on his abilities. He's probably too old now to do the crazy "no strings attached" stunts he did back in the day

There are no more Jackie Chans because there are no more actors who would risk their lives for people's entertainment nor are there any insurance companies that would cover the medical expenses.

Also CG can make anyone look like a super hero so you don't really need "trained fighters" anymore.

The industry will probably never go back to making the kind of live-action movies Jackie Chan starred in. Everything is highly CGI and so far off from reality that they just look stupid.

Most of their action movies are either stories of old feudal b.s., which I don't think will ever become mainstream in the western world, or modern action movies with ridiculous super-slow mo scenes where they're flying through the air and knocking out 10 guys in a split second. That kind of **** no longer require talented martial artists.

Maybe Donnie Yen qualifies as this generation’s version? Not sure. Unfortunately Asian pop culture has gone soy in recent years so those alpha male figures are few and far between these days.

I’m not all that well informed about this topic, but it appears that these movies commonly had Asian stars tapping into the Western media market with movies catered towards that market. Follow the money. I imagine that they have less incentive to do that these days, especially with the massive growth of the Chinese middle class/the Asian market. I guess the viewers there are probably not as interested in movies like these. That + other points made in this thread (greater general knowledge of martial arts, CGI, etc) probably all play a part in this.

TMA isnt a dominant art (Wrestling, BJJ, Muay Thai) but not useless, its a supplementary art.

Champs with TMA background that have actually used it at some point:
Anderson Silva, GSP, Frank Mir, Lyoto Machida, Robert Whittaker, Chuck Liddell etc.
