IME there are non-crazy genuinely decent Christians. It was actually a Methodist couple that we used to socialize with who introduced me to pastafariansm. The wife is actually employed by the church.

I think part of it is that they’re so ignorant to other religions and don’t understand those religions beliefs, so it’s easier for them to mock and go full Dunning-Kruger with Christianity.

Maybe.

But I also think that [like often happens] Christianity gets stereotyped according to the most vocal, most unusual, and least principled examples.

- big name TV preachers raking in money
- Evangelicals being politically active and attempting to force their mores on the general public
- scandals involving people who profess themselves to be Christian

I've known some people who identify as Christian, but don't act that way. In the US there still seems to be some who hold to the idea that if you suffer some negative experience then you must have done something to deserve it/you are being punished by god. Met plenty who put on their Christianity at the front door of the church and then take it off when they leave.

That said there really still are good Christian people out there and I've found them too. There are still some who are "walking the walk" and usually they aren't trying to preach at you with words.

If you haven't been in the church yourself then you really just hear about the negative examples on the news.

This charity started with one woman setting out to serve her community. And she is a gem. Have met her a time or two and volunteered.

Because if you have free will, and you pray for god to change your future, he must also change another observer's past. Also, when God encounters two prayers at different points in space and time, he cannot objectively determine which occurred first. To put it bluntly, it illustrates that God can't have any sort of objective timeline and therefore cannot react in your present to your prayer in the way Christians think. Your present is not a universal present. Your future already happened for another observer. The entire universe already exists in 4d. This also implies free will is only an illusion.

The only way you can rescue this is if you take a solipsist view that you are the only observer really. And that isn't a particularly encouraging thought either.

They're not, though.

I do not personally have a major beef with Islam, I respect many of the posters here who practice that Religion, but I also recognize that Religion has a big problem with extremism and fundamentalism, problems that have people regularly being slaughtered on a daily basis. Not looked down on, not with Muslims being smug about being better Muslims than others, not with Muslims thinking they're better than others, but with them murdering people a lot.

I don't want to chit on them, because it's not all Muslims, but there are many who are, there are others who are overly sympathetic to that cause and such and at the end of the day, it's x1,000,000 worse than even the most disgusting WBC protest from loony fundamentalist Christians putting up hateful signs.

Yet, Christianity gets a good 99 out of 100 of the criticism, despite being far less -- and it's because people like the OP probably are too cowardly to take on 'protected' minorities like Muslims.

To be fair, the Westboro Baptist Church is about 99% lawyer and 1% religious. They know what they are doing and cash in anytime someone touches them or interferes with their legal right to pretend to be religiously upset.
