Just imagine if you contributed 7% and your employer matched you on even a really safe played mutual fund how much you would have when you retire? Even if you were to put in a little less and pay for your own long term disability insurance. Would you do better or worse than Social Security.

Of course autistic kids' parents wouldn't get a check every month for their kids being "disabled". Disability going to those who never earned anything. But who cares.

What I learned from experience is states that don't have a state income tax have other taxes and higher taxes on things to make up for it. Look up property taxes in Texas.

Seems mostly useful if you have individually lived on for 3k/mo or 36k/yr until you are 70 years old.

That's a bit over median US per capita income.

If we didn't have any retirement at all then you'd be paying for your parents in old age like your own kids.

Though cutting it would be great for families who are already super wealthy that don't have to worry about being too old to work.

Kind of funny how the biggest beneficiaries of austerity are also the wealthy people in control of the government.

Told my buddy a couple days ago to take a look at how much money is taken out of his paycheck for social security. $900 every two weeks. That's the day I made him start to understand why I'm a libertarian.

We'll never see a dime of it either. It'll be dissolved by the time we retire. Every retired person would be far better off if that money automatically went to a retirement account instead of the ponzi scheme that is social security, since the whole point of its creation was the government saying "you're too dumb to plan for retirement so we'll make this chit program." Such a joke.

Payed almost $200k in income and payroll taxes last year.

This year probably over $600k taxes because expat double taxation.

I am retiring and living off of depreciating real estate income and part of my major mental satisfaction is knowing I won’t pay another dime in income or payroll taxes after.

Do you understand how social security works? The government takes your money, mismanages it, then slowly gives it back to you when you’re older. It adds no value to people with any level of personal responsibility.

Wait til you find out who invented, produces, and backs the value of all the money that you'd like to keep more of.

All those US Dollars are printed and guaranteed by the government.

I agree, the government is corrupt and this extends to misusing money.

I guess the concept on paper of pensions or retirement is good, but you are right the execution is terrible.

You can always move to a state with lower taxes and enjoy the reduction for a while until the democrats you elect in your new state raise taxes.
