There was a time that CD's were paying 5-7% and a lot of bonds payed even more. $250K could net you 15-20K a year in interest. Now the interest won't even keep up with inflation. You are losing money in savings accounts.

Depends where you live.

I make 250k+ but live in SoCal OC. You have to pay 850k minimum for a beat up 60 yr old starter home. Anything less you're living in Guadalajara 2.0... better learn Spanish and lock your car doors.

That said I live comfortably and buy whatever I want without concern. It's just the damn houses that make me feel like all the other welfare Democrats living here.

I’ve been selling off my old properties and pumping the money into new developments. Got quite a good payout with the market being the way it is, the maintenance and tenanting hassle is getting old so figured I’d get out now while the prices are nuts. Managed to time the two most recent sales on either side of the financial year but one is still in contract but hasn’t settled.

Have made way more money way quicker with the townhome new developments, don’t think I’ll ever go back to long-term buy and hold.
