Do you guys remember thinking 250k was a lot?

Then you get older and realize it’s barely above the poverty line.


Now imagine only making 100k. Soup kitchen mode.

32k is a lot for me, more than enough to live comfortably.

Household income poverty line is around 13k in the USA.

People are just really bad with money, making 100k or 250k is not going to change that.

agreed. wardrobe alone - if you're fashionable and keep up with current trends - is a 3-5k per year expense. Not even including the 5-10k spent on food annually, another 10-15k on vacations, etc.

<100k per year is why so many people rentmaxx

I mean you get accustomed to what you're used to making. I make about $750 a day not including what i make in investments and feel like its not enough.

when i was living in podunk florida, i was making 40k and i was able to support a stay at home house wife and a baby

but here in honolulu, 40k is poverty; you'll barely survive on your own with that kind of income. 100k over here is lower middle class

Just seems wasteful really, median household income is 60k and that's usually two incomes.

That's enough to mortgage a median property and live comfortably. You can certainly do that with less.

Not really into fashion or anything like that, but I do like to indulge from time to time in things like takeout food or gifts.

I think it's important to save a lot and invest so you don't have to spend your whole life working for a paycheck.

I guess I am just a simple man, never been much for luxury. My idea of luxury is eating out or traveling.

Lol I work a white collar job, but I make more than that, that's just like my minimum threshold for "the good life".

I mean this is America, it is a wealthy country. Even a median income is enough to live well if you are responsible with money.

I certainly have ambition, I have a lot of ambition. We also have two incomes, we make enough to save and invest and make a lot of money.

That's really the key, having good financial skills will allow you to build wealth even with an average income.

And not like "FIRE" or early retirement bs I mean real wealth.

Yeah I am from the South, I think many of us are content with more simple living.

Hawaii though is on another level, I am living in a very expensive city now but Hawaii is more expensive than anywhere in the US by a huge margin.

Very nice place though, the people are really friendly like down South.

That's the truth. If you can take care of yourself and your loved ones, then that will make you happy. As long as you treat them right and stay close.

Finance is boring, people don't like to learn about it. It's not exciting, but it can determine the course of your entire life.

Many will ignore finance and just do whatever with their money, and they end up selling their whole lives to a company as a result.

That being said I think if you are a computer engineer at one of the big tech companies you live a pretty cushy lifestyle.

For finance / law / etc, the $$ comes at a significant cost. Even corporate execs.
