Really? When did u leave school? Were u big around school time/as a teen?
Yeah I see, but seriously though, if your retreat all the time, would that make you feel weird? Like, of I wouldn't really go out to fight people, but if something started bugging me, I'd probably start a fight. I don't know though.

No, I was a twink in High School. I was prob 170lbs. I'm 250 now and 36 years old. I had some close calls when I was a bouncer but nothing escalated to throwing fists.

And no, it wouldn't make me feel weird. That's a stupid way to look at the situation, but you're young so I understand.

What benefit could possibly come from fighting? To look tough and macho? Nobody cares in the adult world. I have ALOT to lose. I have a wife, two kids, a nice home and a great job. I'm not going to risk going to jail, or getting stabbed or shot at over some low life street thug. When you're out of school fighting is stupid and immature unless you are defending yourself or loved ones from harm.

Thanks for fixing the link, I'll check that out.

Hmmm maybe so, I have a lot to think about honestly. I wouldn't really know what's going on until I'm in a situation.

So, if someone was talking some horrible stuff, saying really bad stuff, but DIDN'T want a fight. How would you handle that? Should I start a fight by getting aggressive, or should I sprint in the opposite direction?

I see, I actually wanted to start mma cos it looks epic, but couldn't because of the virus. But what fighting thingy/type I'd the best to get into? I did judo when I was younger, but it seemed unrealistic in real life situations.

Actually yeah, those random losers that start and get into fights, what happens to them? Do they go to prison? (I always thought they just get into fights, and the police just isn't informed, so no action is taken)

Yeah, thanks for all the advice you've given, appreciate it. I may look at this thread from time to time as my mind has been meddled with because of unrealistic TV shows showcasing jacked guys bullying the world.

Still not sure. What would you do if someone said something horrendously bad to you? 99% of what I've seen, people just erupt and immediately bash the other person. Unrealistic? I've read on random threads that police favour the punch thrower if the other/instigator mocked a dead person or said something bad?

Depends how the slander effects you without regard to your emotion (acting on emotion will get you in trouble, ie drunk people), most of the time not enough for a confrontation. If it's relating to your relationship with the missus, regarding your job, there are still better options than fighting, which won't help at all. Life is about mental gymnastics, you're overthinking it. I had to learn this **** the hard way.

Striking (boxing, kickboxing, muay thai) and jiu jitsu as a foundation, everything else is bonus (considering it's not some bull**** martial art). People that start **** some times get away with it due to circumstance like witnesses not seeing them start the **** or things like having money and affording better lawyers.

Unless I know I can have video evidence pulled, yes. I've gotten out of some things due to eyewitness testimony but you can never count on that, and it wasn't easy or cheap, and I'd absolutely avoid it if I had the chance to do it again.

In my 31 years of life, I've never had a situation where someone has said something horrendously bad to me for no apparent reason, and I grew up in Detroit my entire life.

Sounds cliche but at the end of the day treat people with respect and how you would want to be treated and you won't have to worry about these issues.

And these TV shows you speak of (sounds like Jersey Shore or some chit) are what you just said, unrealistic and should not be taken seriously at all.

Put all of this worrying and mental energy towards something else other than worrying about a situation that most likely will never happen.

The best option is always not to fight if it can be helped. You never know what variables might come into play. Recently saw a video of a fight start to break out and in an instant a knife flashes out, stabs a guys throat, and within about 20 seconds hes down on the sidewalk, bleeding to death.
A million miles away - I don't.. feel.... anything.

I see, I think you being big is helping a lot. Do you live in a rough area? My area is fine, but the general news is a bit unsettling.

I may be travelling soon for a job and may encounter characters mentioned above. Hmmm I see, the thing is, if I have the power to bash a group of trash talkers, why should they be getting away with it? I'm trying to figure out the thresholds of things, so I don't land myself in prison, that'll ruin my entire life probably.

It might be an age thing. Age ranges from 18-29ish, most guys just want a fight. If I had a family setup like you, I'd be calm 24/7 (maybe).

So, you never get in situations where you're about to erupt on a person? (I never have, but people are like that)

Once you become trained, actually getting into a fight is something you have to actively prevent to avoid getting into a lot of trouble. Judo, BJJ, or any variant of boxing are probably the best thing for a street fight but IMO you don't want to get close enough to anyone to grapple so that's why I chose muay thai.

Depends on if they stick around long enough for cops to actually show up, which will probably never happen. Unless you have someone recording the entire event and a way to identify them, you're almost always SOL otherwise they'd get charged anything from public nuisance to assault and battery to attempted murder. Just depends.

When I was younger and used to drink, I've gotten into several situations at college bars and parties that would have led to a fight. Best thing to do is learn to deescalate while not backing down. You want to dominate their psychology and behavior while holding back on physical confrontation as long as possible. Gotta be persistent and make them back off so they look like the puzzy and you look like the bigger dude.

I see. I never really get affected by much, I'm thinking ahead, asking guys on here who have adult experience since I have none.

I've just seen it on TV and on ********, even friends. Where the scenario is that they've got in a fit of rage because what the other person has said, then beat up the other person. (I'd think they'd go to prison, but how does the law react to this? With a person ecstatic because of insulting comments?)

I read your other post. I'll check out jiu jitsu since it sounds the coolest. I think I just need to learn how to throw a punch without wasting a ton of energy lol.

Thanks!

Being my size definitely helps. Logically if someone is going out looking for a fight they aren't going to pick someone who's 6'1, 250lbs, bald and covered in tattoos. I don't live in a rough area now, but I've bounced/partied at sketchy spots in South Florida in my youth.

It's not your job to "bash trash talkers" let them talk chit. What if you decide to engage and one of them pulls a knife? Chances are they have no clue WTF they are doing and that knife could end up in your neck. Even worse, some thug pulls a gun and isn't trained in using it, and they accidently let a shot off and it lands in your stomach. Was starting a fight worth it then?

I have erupted a few times, but it's always been after me politely asking said person to stop doing what they are doing. Usually get a " Sorry bro!" after that or something. I'm a genuinely nice guy, and don't get too upset about things.

The only time you need to be fighting is to defend yourself or a loved one from harm. As an adult there is no other reason to be throwing fists. It isn't cool, and it doesn't make you tough. It's immature and stupid.

I see, thanks for the advice, appreciate it. I may not ever get into a fight, but precaution is better than not having a clue in the fight lol.

It's good saying to not fight and stuff. But how would I go about it? (Like, would you say something back, then leave, or just leave? I know street smarts come into it, but you know, people are unpredictable)

Damn, do you typically go out in groups? Or are you huge? Detroit is horrendous from what I've heard.

Yeah, my mother says that haha, parents can be useful at time haha!

Yeah exactly that. Those jersey shore type guys get in people faces and scream and punch, and the law seems nice about it? They're ripped and get away with it?

Kind of confusing, as at all costs, being a guy and looking cool is something to strive for ofcourse. But yeah, my mum was telling me to read the news, and I think I've frightened myself a bunch lol.

See, that's the news I was kind of talking about! Haven't heard of that story, but similar stuff. (I didn't type that cos it makes me uneasy)

Stuff like that really messes with my head. Cos, I mean, everyone has cutlery and the news is flooded with cases like that. I don't want to beat someone up. Go home happy. Few days later I'm dealing with a group of 10 people?

So confusing lol!!

Cool stuff! Thanks for all this. See, that's why I want to learn how to fight. My 2nd nature is to spear someone to the ground, then hit them or whatever.

What's SOL?

I see! So what kind of lingo are you talking about? When deescalating, you have to do it right or you'll sound gay, and get yourself in an even bigger fight that probably wasn't going to happen.

This. I've had a couple dumbfuks try to start trouble with me for no reason. I used to work a night shift job and would have to go to grocery stores and the like late at night. You'd be ashamed of the human race if you knew how often people want to go hang out in front of the grocery store on Friday night and try to instigate a fight with some random. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's not rare.

The common factor was these were the types of dumbfuks you would tell from a distance were loser burnouts with nothing going for them. If a guy like that is giving you a hard time then know his opinion of anyone doesn't mean dick.

As much as possible, avoid getting into a fight with a stranger. You don't know what they are capable of. You don't know if they're mentally ill or on drugs. You don't know if they are armed.

Literally there is no scenario where it's worth the risk to fight someone you don't know if you have any other option.

I see, thanks for all the advice you've given, appreciate it!

I guess, ahhhh! Being an adult is so stupid, the comment about someone pulling a weapon, that could 100% happen and could ruin my entire long 18 years of life.

I think you are right though, I'm all new to this whole adult thing, and the furthest I think I should go would to perhaps be aggressive to give the other guy the notion that he's out of line. But the thing is, if that fails, I've just escalated the situation big time?

Thanks.

What's SOL?

I see! So what kind of lingo are you talking about? When deescalating, you have to do it right or you'll sound gay, and get yourself in an even bigger fight that probably wasn't going to happen.
SOL = shid out of luck.

It mostly comes with experience - a decent book on it is Mental Combat by Pierce, or most books on sports psychology.

Confusing stuff lol. Seems a bit unfair. School seemed far more better with how they handled stuff. Imagine some guy running his mouth, then I hit him, then I go to prison, he gets nice help from his family to help him rehabilitate. So ****ing gay.

The common factor was these were the types of dumbfuks you would tell from a distance were loser burnouts with nothing going for them. If a guy like that is giving you a hard time then know his opinion of anyone doesn't mean dick.
Really? So when those guys talk stuff, you just turn your back and ignore? Stuff like that is kind of annoying to read, and it's probably a group of 16 year olds, or some random clowns. All of which you can't do anything in response or you'll get in huge trouble??

Yeah, the school environment was a lot different to the adult world, I'm still not sure if I understand what's wrong or right honestly..

So, I feel as if the people in my thread are being sincere, is it actually logical to retreat from a fight the majority of the time? Even if you know you can win?
