I'm not saying it's better to be poor.

My sister is a doc and her husband is a millionaire. They live very nicely but well below their means and can afford anything they want. Her engagement ring was $60k.
They're both miserable.

Moneycanbuy happiness

Of course it requires that you know what will make you happy.

If you spend it on a hedonic treadmill trying to keep up with the joneses then probably not

But that’s not the fault of the money

Also we have a free public health system but we went private for obstetrics services so we actually got an OBGYN and technicians who can give us the best advice on test outcomes etc

In the US where health is both expensive and privately delivered I’m guessing the money = health argument is even stronger
Once its fukked, its fukked. We have free healthcare, but the pattern I'm seeing is people lose a massive chunk of mobility and happiness even post-op. Once your soft tissues go, especially ligaments and cartilage, no amount of money can replace what is constantly regenerating cushion. I see most tradies go in for op after op, till their knees and backs are a mess of scar tissues, and they completely give up and live with the pain forever. The pain is fukked, some of their faces they make just getting off the chair, you'd think they're getting raped by a horde of angry orcs. They're always angry and drunk too, I can smell alcohol on most of them at 10am meetings, but hey, they're earning millions, so they're supposed to be happy right?

I think happiness as a man is derived more from work and the accomplishments it may bring. Whether it is your career or just hobbies you are into. I do feel a baseline for this would would have to be some sort of steady productive output. I've seen landscapers in my neighborhood have more fun and generally look happy every time they are here, than my neighbors. Money does help, I just think it is the things we do to earn that money that give us guys at least, a feeling of happiness.

money means freedom, freedom means happiness. That doesn't stave off existential angst but jet skis can help with that.

Money doesn’t necessary make you happy, but being poor can easily make you miserable.

Best to eliminate being miserable due to being poor first, then work on being happy.

money is important
but happiness comes from various
aspects, money one of them...ignoring other
life sides and concentrating on money wont work.

Yep. Only people who never had money say money doesn't buy you happiness. It's a pure cope mechanism.

Money doesn't buy happiness but it sure as chit fixes many problems that you would otherwise have to deal with.

No, it really doesn't.

The only times my problems disappeared was when i made them disappear from my mind.

Money will simply exacerbate the problems you already have, which are usually in your mind, or caused by a chronic disease.

Easy access to healthy food, safe shelter, utilities, transport and medical treatment are all problems which money solves. There are diminishing returns after a certain point but not having to deal with these problems is extremely useful. I guess you can wish them away and certain philosophies deal with doing just that, but personally I'd much rather live like I do than in a ghetto with no money.

Dude, if you have those issues in a western country like Australia then you have some mental or emotional problems going on.

Kind of shifting the goalposts there, but anyway, 3+ million people live below the poverty line in Australia so safe to say that for many of those people, money absolutely would solve some real and tangible problems. Because money solves problems.

I agree with most of the OP since money increases quality of life but your problems could just become more expensive. People who say with certainty that money will buy happiness has never had money. Look at the average lotto winner, broke within a couple years and usually worse off than before.

Having a lot of money is necessary but not sufficient for a good life.

The people who think money is everything are willfully ignoring so many examples of this not being true including celebrities with all the fame and fortune imaginable killing themselves
