We were together about 9 years. Sucks that we didn't make it, but feels better that at least it wasn't a wasted effort.

That's not me, it's a coincidence. It's an old username which is related to my previous career, which did involve making music (for TV and advertising, nothing glamorous).

What? I'm supposed to just feel bad and hate him forever or something? Looking back I would say he had traits of narcissism or borderline, but really no one outside of maybe a psych program was much aware of that then. Talked about it a little when seeing a therapist during my last divorce. She said that for people like him [messed up family, mean drunk mom] that being the one to end a relationship feels safer and more in control, kind of "you can't hurt me if I hurt you first" or "I'll leave you so you can't leave me".

I was totally NC/no communication or information for several years before I became curious if he was still even alive. From what you can tell based on just public information he seems generally fulfilled. Looks a lot older and sadder around the eyes somehow. Could be I'm strange thinking that if you really love someone you don't wish them ill even if you wish them out of your life.

I can dwell on my wasted youth, or take some comfort in what came of it- a gifted singer performing for the enjoyment of appreciative audiences.

Not to mention that joy or happiness does not inherently need to lead to something in the future. I hear so many people regret relationships, jobs, hobbies, etc. because they are no longer engaged with them but this does not negate the fulfillment they brought you at the time. Not everything is a means to another end.

I want to climb Everest but balancing age to do it vs cost is difficult. When you have more $$$ later on is when it physically is harder
