So, Duke tested 15k and found 364 cases of Covid for a positivety rate of 1.59%.

What's the issue here?

The issue, as stated in the article is “this surge is placing significant stress on the people, systems and facilities that are dedicated to protecting our health, safety and the ability of Duke to fulfill its educational mission, particularly our isolation space for on-campus students who test positive.”

The coronavirus vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech are proving highly effective at preventing symptomatic and asymptomatic infections under real-world conditions, federal health researchers reported on Monday.

Consistent with clinical trial data, a two-dose regimen prevented 90 percent of infections by two weeks after the second shot. One dose prevented 80 percent of infections by two weeks after vaccination.

Scientists have debated whether vaccinated people may still get asymptomatic infections and transmit the virus to others. The new study, by researchers at the C.D.C., suggested that since infections were so rare, transmission was likely rare, too.

There also has been concern that variants may render the vaccines less effective. The study’s results do not confirm that fear. Troubling variants were circulating during the time of the study — from Dec. 14, 2020, to March 13, 2021 — yet the vaccines still provided powerful protection.
This article is from March... before Delta. The numbers are irrelevant.

That may be true. But it wasn't even 2 months ago that Biden was saying that if you were vaxed you couldn't get COVID. Delta was already widespread at that point.

The point is that the goalposts constantly move. Also, the report made it a point to mention that variants were circulating at that time and that the vaccines still proved effective. Now the goalpost is boosters, but if the problem is due to variants and not “weakening effectiveness” then boosters won’t help because they are using the same spike proteins.

Link? And what is the overall vaccinated rate?

If 98% are vaccinated, one would expect almost all cases to be from those that are vaxxed.

Edit - 98% are indeed vaxxed.

The narrative has changed yet again. Now it is back to being about freeing up hospital resources.

A 1% positivity rate doesn't disprove vax work.

Also, vaccines in general do not work if only 50% of population gets them.

What's the response to the "outbreak" have to do with the vaccine? The vaccine is working as advertised. Even better actually with that low an infection rate.

You have to normalize this occurrence versus a population that isn't vaccinated, of the same demographic....under 25.

That's the revised message in the last 2 months. They were supposed to stop almost everyone from catching the virus in the first place, and even if you were one of the rare people that still got infected, it was supposed to be nearly impossible for you to infect others afterward. Everyone will get the virus. Calling them vaccines at this point is over generous. The first 2 shots are immune boosters, just as the 3rd. They're still very useful, especially for old people, but time to be realistic.

Agree. But 2% positively rate is certainly not a reason to say the vax doesn’t work like so many miscers did. If anything it likely supports the vax efficacy.

or if the "vaccine" actually performed as real vaccines are supposed to, you would not have massive chunks of vaccinated people getting infected. those used to be called vaccine failures, by the way. just change the name and don't worry about it though, right?

Do you even math?

Of the total positive cases, 98% were vaxxed.

Of the total student population, 98% were vaxxed.

The percentage of vaxxed students that tested positive was equal to the vaxxed population.

If the vax was effective at preventing infection, the 2% of unvaxxed should have been significantly over-represented in the positive cases.

This categorically shows a lack of effectiveness of the vax at preventing infection.
