Once you start looking for one (that takes will to do in the first place) you will realize talented and able psychologists and psychiatrists are too few and far in between and only got into that field in order to understand and solve their own personal issues. They rarely aim to help out and would rather just throw some new and expensive drugs and medicine your way. You are more likely to get actual help from people you know.

Oh man it really gets my blood boiling when women try to blame men for their own suicides or attribute it to “toxic masculinity” and say that “It’s because you guys won’t talk to each other or seek therapy!”

Yea that’s real nice. Blame the victim. Engage in the exact same toxic mindset that you absolute hate when men do with you. Unbelievable.

Most therapists suck. You have to find the right one.

And yeah someone who has factors like the article mentioned of being long-term unemployed, with illness, or live alone only they can help themselves. A therapist is just there to talk to you for one hour and that's it.
Das not it mayne.

Not surprised, went to a psychologist a few years ago for panic disorder & depression and the lady just asked about family and handed me a pamphlet about a electrotherapy device.

I'm sure therapists care for their patients, but that care is only paid for by appointment and given on an hourly basis. Therapists can alleviate some of the mental issues, but can't eliminate the source. Since it is men, most have already decided to follow through with it. Therapists seem to not help the situation, since it is a stranger to the individual at the end of the day. I'd be interested to know the number of people prevented from committing suicide by means of therapy/therapists, since it is also good to focus on positive numbers as well. As far as suicide by men, what do you think causes a man to go that far? I know it listed causes such as family loss/death, financial reasons and job loss, but are the men also putting so much stock into these things that make them feel completely lost without them?

From a biological standpoint, men have always been the expendable sex. We go to war and get killed off and the surviving men can still impregnate multiple women. And women are also more selective than men by nature. So a lot of men get left out. Men are also more anti-social and introverted than women by nature.

It’s only going to get worse as the 80/20 rule where 80% of the women are fukking 20% of the men turns into 90/10 or even 95/5. And there are more male virgins aged 18-29 than anytime before I think I read somewhere. Pretty sure those stats are close/accurate.

Not surprising.
We are so encouraged to “get help” but in reality it doesn’t make much difference and sometimes makes things worse.

Lol at therapy

Send these men to the gym, or give them an old rusted up classic car to restore or some other similar project and watch those figures drop significantly
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.

The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."

The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

If you fail to kill yourself then you probably werent trying too hard in the first place. Im convinced many female suicide attempts in the statistics arent real suicide attempts. Cutting your wrists a little bit so that your mom will find you and take your mental health struggles seriously isnt a real suicide attempt.

Therapy is a farce to begin with. Its psychobabble bullchit, couple that with the SSRI suicide pills they feed people it'll likely make someone considering suicide go ahead and just do it.

Amazed no one has pointed out the statistical misunderstanding in headlines like the OP’s.
That stat gives you no information on efficacy of therapy unless you have controlled comparison stats for non suicidal cases.

Literal misinformation thread title. It states that only 50% were seeking therapy. The 91% had just seen a primary care doctor within three months of suicide.

From anecdotal experience can confirm, my dad admitted to nearly killing himself after my parents' divorce. And I can't blame him. Went from living with his wife of >2 decades in the house they bought together and raised a family in, that he'd come back to after a job he hated with his guts but worked to provide for us, to living in rented accomodation by himself. 30 years of working, saving, mortgage payments, and your future, just erased and eroded. He ended up with the woman he cheated on my mother with, but it sounds loveless and even sexless these days.

The divorce was ultimately his own doing, if anything he betrayed the marriage, but I can't imagine how he copes with knowing he brought down his entire life's work, to that point, and that it's essentially downhill from there.

Perhaps men kill themselves for reasons that can't be fixed by talking to a therapist.

A therapist might help with emotional trauma from abuse or something like that but if you're suicidal because you felt you failed as a man because you lost your life savings or aren't able to escape inceldom then wtf is a therapist going to do about that?

As a 42yo I totally get it. I'm not in the position of many guys but it's already hard sometimes.

Imagine your wife divorces you and since she never was srs about her job she doesn't make much so you have to pay massive alimony. Child support. Kids are getting older and they just think you're controlling. The mom brainwashes them against you and has more time with them so she is usually successful. Imagine your career isn't doing too well, stuck in a dead end job, but it's too late to start over in something new, or you're just afraid to. You are getting older and it's harder plus maybe an injury or something you can't do as well so now it's even harder. If you can't provide you are a POS loser. State will take your driver's license if you are not up to date on your child support and alimony. Fruitbasket therapist has no way of relating to you. You ask for help you're a loser or less than a man. Imagine if your credit is ruined and your business fails. Imagine a 30 year mortgage is past your life expectancy. Might as well rope.

If therapists really worked, they would put themselves out of business. Nothing can replace family/friends. You might think you can't talk to them, but you can.

That's capitalism for ya.

It's no surprise In a vain materialistic and superficial world most men have no one to talk to or support networks to get them through tough times. We're so alienated and lonely because our phucked up society that more and more men are going to be choosing the rope over their suffering.

If we weren't so alienated by capitalism we would have stronger communal networks and closer relationships with our friends / relatives for support. I mean just look at the less developed countries that are not so entrenched on the capitalist dogma (Latin America, Africa, etc) suicide rates are lower despite facing way more adversity. They have tighter comunal and familiar bonds to help them cope

Also this, while professional help does help a lot. There's nothing like having a network of people who legit care for you. Either friends or family.
But real friends are even familiar bonds keep getting deluged by capitalist hyper individualism.

Glad you posted this, and correct me if I didn't interpret this right.
Both left and right push the same narrative about social cohesion and mental health.

More individualization = good for the economy = good for you
Strong communities = bad
Mental health and spiritual well being comes second after productivity and consumerism

Not to mention the inherent flaws in our societal model. Productivity and blind consumerism come first. Social cohesion and mental / spiritual health comes second after all that.

The oligarchs want and alienated and lonely pleb class that they can easily control and manipulate. That's by design. They dont care about your mental / physical health at all.

Just at how many people are sick both physically and mentally in the developed world. The amount of alienated and lonely and desperate people is staggering.

You commies will use anything to try to argue against capitalism. I guess if people had no hope or nothing to live for they woudln't commit suicide. STFU. Any evidence that capitalist countries see more suicide or are you taking out your ass?

I'm sure you make good money and are wealthy but would rather see a fair system for others, right?
