I have worked as a salesman for 6 years and 3 dealerships. New car dealerships excpecially want you to be a happy customer. They want to keep you happy so that they can keep their license to sell new cars for Toyota or whoever the brand is.

Give them time to figure out what is going on. Be patient with the techs. Some times weird issues take time to diagnose.

DO NOT TAKE THE CAR BACK. If they tell you “we cant figure it out best of luck Jack” DO NOT TAKE THE CAR BACK. Leave it there. It is still legally yours. It is safe there.

Do not accept the car back. Demand (in a polite professional manner) that they fix the car. If they will not fix the car then you need to talk to a lawyer.

Regardless of your states lemon law which you should still look into, if they try to not fix the car because the owner is a bucket head call their bluff, do not take the car back, keep pleading your case with the dealer. Its in his best interest to just fix the car and make you go away.

Do this while looking at your legal options. Keep telling them to fix it. If worse comes to worse hold a sign up outside the dealership and make him lose money.

If he loses one or two sales alone he would have been better off financially just fixing your car.

Edit: Every dealership I have worked for would have made sure that your car was fixed regardless of the problem or lemon law just to keep a good reputation in the community and good standing with their corporate office.

The dealers I worked for were Toyota, Ford, and Subaru. New car dealers have higher standards then used. But if it is a used car bought at a new car dealership the standards still apply to the used cars sold.

Research your state's lemon law.

In my state:

On a new vehicle the dealer must replace or refund if:

1. The SAME PROBLEM has been subject to repair FOUR OR MORE TIMES by the manufacturer or dealer within the period of two years or twenty-four thousand miles following the date of original delivery of the motor vehicle to the purchaser, whichever is earlier; and the problem continues to exist.

2. The motor vehicle is out of service by reason of repair for a CUMULATIVE TOTAL OF THIRTY OR MORE CALENDAR DAYS during the shorter of the express warranty term or the two year period or twenty-four thousand miles.

Its a brand new car, it comes with a brand new warranty, and any engine that dies at 1k miles no matter the cause will be warrantied.......

They have my vehicle and they’re not asking me to take it back. They have given me a loaner vehicle half the price of mine - which is chit but oh well.

General manager won’t get back to me. Returns calls via the service manager. Service manager said “seems like engine is seized” then quickly added “maybe” lol. He also said “Lincoln should step in” implying I’ll be taken care of.

I told him I’m not comfortable driving that piece of chit cuz it stranded me in the middle of the street. Luckily was a side street entering the neighborhood off of a super busy Main Street. I wonder what would happen if it just siezed going 65 mph. That would’ve totally ****ed chit up

Honestly the way dealerships work, I doubt they will undo the sale (unless it keeps happening and it falls under lemon laws). Best you could probably do is ask for free things for the car (accessories, extended warranty, siriusXM for a year).

Every single tech that has darted and touched your vehicle, every single diagnostics & tests & repairs & fixes, etc. Be very clear you want every single detail in writing. Any "deal" they propose or "discount" the promise in writing. Statements from their GM on the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
