It's a simple fix, but not an easy fix in my opinion.

You would have to bring back religion and other strong community ties. People need a higher purpose, a feeling of being a part of a bigger whole, and need people to have positive shared values. I'm not even a religious person as such, but the older I get the more I see its utility pragmatically. I'd rather have people worship God than worship satanist celebrities and sloots like they do today.

Get rid of feminism and other unnatural social agendas and have strong men maintaining social order.

We need to bring back shaming in many forms, right now people are not held to any standard. We need to put a stop to this endless 'casual dating' and divorce culture, we need people having strong lasting relationships so kids can grow up in 2 parent homes. Having people be religious also helps fulfills this enforcement function.

These aren't things you can do at a policy level though unfortunately, people would have to come back to this on their own. There are other factors you can address at a policy level to do with the economy and such, but in my opinion the most important foundational part is addressing those social factors I mentioned before.

You depressed people have too much free time on your hands. After work and hobbies I don't have time to be depressed.

Golf, hiking, watching pro football. I went to the driving range yesterday for a couple hours and tonight I'm going to a bar tonight to watch local pro wrestling (srs).

I get out of the house, but I don't have anyone to do chit with.

COVID, social media, political turmoil constantly in the news, etc. There's a lots of external factors, but it's mostly the extreme amount of information overload. People were less depressed in the 90's because they weren't constantly accessing internet/websites and didn't have a smartphone or even a cellphone in their hands. Now even 9 year olds know what "doomer" culture is, they know what sex is and how it works, they've seen disgusting twerking videos on TikTok and Reddit and whatever else. It's all clouding their judgement and skews with their perspective on reality.

Kids should be living in their imaginations, creating stuff, spending time outdoors, hobbies/interests that consume their time, free of the true reality of our society/world. College kids nowadays have so much anxiety and they see their peers achieving in the dating world (Tinder, ********, Instagram), job market, unemployment due to COVID, etc and they feel hopeless and isolated. But really they just do it themselves. This is why vaping/smoking is such a big thing in the last 5,10 years - it's escapism. You don't need that chit. I mean, college is a good time to experiment with alcohol as that's what a frat party/dorm party essentially is, but these kids nowadays take it to the extreme.

Go outside and get some fresh air, hit up a club and talk to people, push yourself out of your comfort zone, try out some new hobbies/activities/sports. Life is all about putting yourself out there and trying new things. I'll admit I fell into the same trap during my high school/college years, but you can break out of it if you try. Most of them are "depressed" due to a few circumstances (lack of sex, lack of friends, etc), not because there's something actually wrong with their brains.

So most people would have just answered negatively.

Today, every Gen Z kid worshipping at the altar of social media victimhood has self-diagnosed themselves with anxiety, depression, and a host of other maladies. So of course they're all depressed... just like they're all bisexual and changed their pronouns.
This. Self-diagnosed. Anybody can say anything. It doesn't make it true.

I was watching Halloween 1976 on Monday. Obviously it's a movie, but they set up a low density suburb where everyone knows everyone, and that really is the kind of place my dad grew up in in the late 1970s. Farm town of 10,000. Used to be low density enough that he could get out of the car and have road rage fistfights in the street (srs). He still hangs out with the class of 1980 football team, they keep tabs on who they know from high school is doing what in life.

Last week, there was a mass shooting 30 miles from my dad's hometown at a mall in Boise. Obviously we could go on for days about what causes mass shootings, but I would say a necessary prerequisite is that you've got to see the people around you as NPCs. You don't just roll up and start shooting indiscriminately at people you know. So in 40 years, the Boise Valley went from an environment where everybody knows everybody to a place so depersonalized that some brah just sees randoms as trash to be taken out.

It speaks to a broader society-wide alienation IMO... too many people who have no connection to each other anymore. Everyone is out doing their own thing by themselves, and all these other people are just NPCs/strangers getting in their way. I live in a city of 4 million and have no friends here, just a couple coworkers I know. If 3.99 million of them dropped dead it would only improve my quality of life.

I think that sort of alienation and breakdown of community is sort of inevitable with growing population. There's just too many people to know, so phuck it, you don't try to them, they don't try to know you. We live in the IRL mouse utopia.... population can keep growing as long as we have food, but social bonds fail above a certain level of density.

We're starting to see the Western world fail. The promise forever was that growth is good... there will be more people next generation than this one, and they will have a better life than their parents. In a sense that worked too well. We now have more people than we can keep track of, and there just isn't enough resources on Earth to give all them a better life than their parents had. Growth has now hit its limits. What's coming up is contraction... everyone sees it coming, and no one wants to ride the roller coaster down, but that is sort of where we are at in history.

This. Even before all of the BS, college was a time of uncertainty and doubt. You were still far away from your parents for the first time, trying to figure life out while being bombarded with new information as far as social interaction and knowledge (if you even paid attention in class). A lot of current issues mentioned were problems back when I was 16 yrs old downloading porn off of Limewire, going on myspace after high school, but its even worse these days because you can't even pretend there's a stable future to look forward to. We were already on a slippery slope that has been accelerated by COVID.

Not to mention everyone that feels bad for 20 minutes out of the day claims to be depressed. But tbh they probably are. They lie to themselves saying that they are "loving themselves" and "being accepted" for being fat/broke/unambitious but really everyone knows what the truth is.
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; and if it is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

The math for this is simple.

More than half the students are women. They are depressed or nuts by nature.

The shocking stat is that some are actually well adjusted and normal.

Depression has nothing to do with being sad, its a chemical imbalance that affects the person in a number of ways. You cant just see a rainbow and magically be undepressed.

But depression/anxiety is virtually nonexistent in traditional pre-modernization societies though.

That seems to obviously suggest the unnatural modern ways of living are the main culprit. Some are more predisposed for sure, but it seems to mostly manifest only from the Western way of living.

Yeah, I moved from Boise to San Diego so I am a long ways away, but I still keep in touch. Just flew back home for 2 weeks to see them all (thanks WFH). My parents were laid up with surgeries, but I went and visited some cousins, we shot the **** and I borrowed his AR-15s to go shoot. Fun af. They invited me to go back deer hunting with them in November, IDK if I'll be available though. I text my parents daily. I text my aunts and uncles occasionally. About as good as I can get given the distance.

When there's 8x fewer cars on the road you can do all kinds of dumb chit.

I have a groupchat of friends from high school I keep up with, but we haven't seen each other IRL in probably 3 or 4 years. We all moved way far away for work.

I made a thread about this the other day. A redacted family member of mine is 25 and can't even pick an apartment to live in without breaking down into tears srs. Just like, simple decisions are blown way out proportion. Totally incapable of logic and reasoning

I have yet to meet a mentally stable female, so they'll all be listed as depressed. Then, the males have to put up with them, making them depressed. The other males who don't interact with females get depressed romanticizing about females thinking they'll act normal when with them. This isn't hard to figure out.
