@FarmersSon how many people do you normally have over? I love pecan pie and I make that on Christmas.

This thread is dangerous and now I'm starving...

This year will be 22, I think. Thanksgiving dinner will be at my parents' house, but they just live around the corner. Our properties join together at the back with a field behind both houses.

This will be the largest family gathering we've ever done. We didn't gather last year and both of my sisters have added a baby in the last two years. I did school out-of-state and then worked out-of-state for several years before moving back a few years ago. Before I moved back, gatherings for Thanksgiving were packed at their house. Now we just have to pack in for the meal, but then we can spread family out in both our houses for the weekend. The kids beat a pretty good path in the brush between our houses going back and forth. The meal can be pretty chaotic. Lots of people with a high percentage of kids. Not sure someone out of our family would want to join us, lol, but we have a good time, and eat well.

When I made it in the past I would add some cloves and nutmeg (just small teaspoons of each) but I would add some extra brown sugar and cinnamon. Also just upping the portions on everything to make more casserole. if I recall the casserole is a bit on the small side if you follow that recipe exactly.

In addition to the slaw and the southwestern corn casserole I just got tasked with football snacks.

Making buffalo chicken dip and a shrimp ring! Still beats being in charge of every thing.

@Redraider
Any chance you have recipe link for your Chocolate Salted Caramel Pecan Pie? I just poked around and didn't come up with it. I'm tempted to freestyle a bit this year on my annual pecan pie, but I do have the limitation of no dairy. Pecan pie is my brother's favorite, but he can't do milk/butter, etc.

I made it to the site, but got lost in the never-ending list of pies. Should have used google apparently. Butter and cream are two of my favorite ingredients (plus they go really well with sugar), but it looks like it's out of the running for tomorrow.

the wife and kids will do most of the cooking. Last night I made a couple of pies and today I'll probably make some bread before the oven gets taken over. I'll probably roast some vegetables on the grill if requested. I know we'll have some salsa to make so I'm about ready to grill some onions, hot peppers and tomato's .

Going to my Aunt's, she does the turkey and everyone else brings a side. Going with Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes this year. Yukon Gold Potatoes, Fresh Parsley from our garden, little bit of Minced Garlic, A chit ton of Heavy Whipping Cream, Parmesan Cheese. Simple but super savory.

Making chicken fried turkey cutlets. Dont realy care for turkey but got one.

Cut it up like you would a whole chicken raw and froze all the pieces. Now when I want some I just thaw out a leg or whatever and cook it. Just like you do chiciken.

Breast cutlets will be easy and way better than a big dry bird.

all i care about is

turkey that's sliced and not hacked at by someone who has no idea wtf they were doing

gravy that tastes like actual gravy and not frozen dinner airplane food

the sides and desserts are nice but i would trade them all for decent turkey and gravy

lol yeah it's easy and simple to look up how to carve a turkey, but knuckle-dragging mongoloids have to try and strong-arm their way into it. "Hurr durr I'm carving the turkey!" then we are left with some slices, but mostly just 1-inch chunks of meat covering the plate.

That is awesome. I myself love when everyone in the family is tasked with bringing a dish to the host. Seriously. It’s been done in ours for decades.

Just going to be making a huge batch of my Grammys famous Brussel sprouts. Transporting to serving dish and this years location.

Happy Thanksgiving! Brussel sprouts get a bad rap. I don't think I ever ate them growing up, just weren't in the rotation, I guess. But I heard other people say they didn't like them. I think I was 25 before I ever tried them, and I thought they were really good. Beets are another veggie I never really ate when I was young, but love now.

Happy thanksgiving!

It’s a very good recipe but the Brussels she trimmed and cut into flats. Like 2 lbs. it’s made with a lb of Italian Turkey sausage, pecans and seasoned to perfection with the right blend of herbs. She always made them growing up but I didn’t start to gain an appreciation for them or really any green food until later on.

Brussels with bacon is good too but that one I make just for the hell of it.

My wife and mother-in-law don't care for tradtional Thanksgiving turkey, so I am doing roast with onions, carrots, and tomatoes with a onion/mushroom brown gravy.

Scratch made mashed potatoes, greens, mac &cheese, roasted maple brussel sprouts with bacon, and apple pie.

My father-in-law and I do like Turkey on Thanksgiving so he is doing a turkey with cornbread stuffing and giblet gravy.

I just made two kinds of homemade cranberry sauce, one regular the other with black pepper and pickled jalapenos.

I hope everyone enjoys their turkey day spent with family.

Some delicious looking food itt.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

We'll see how it turns out. They have a sweet orange flesh, but I'm not sure how close the taste is to pumpkin. Years ago, my mom did a taste test with pumpkin pies - one made from squash and one from a pumpkin variety specifically for pies. People actually preferred the squash pie, but I can't remember the variety.

If I remember correctly most canned pumpkin pie filling is actually made with some kind of squash rather than real pumpkin. Since that is all most people ever have I'm sure the flavor of a true pumpkin pie would throw a lot of folks off.

Most people use butternut squash for a squash pie. Tastes very close to pumpkin but I find squash pie a little sweeter in taste. Couple years ago I made a summer squash pie which is more like a custard dessert.

Keep the pics coming all, looks delish!
