Okay Nazi. At my company you can use sick time for what ever the fuk you want. It is a benefit you've earned.

I fixed it with no argument and that was over a year ago.

It would make her wet if somebody put her in her place for being such a dumb sloot. But nobody ever does so she has to resort to doing even crazier stuff.

Fck that, he apparently had “earned” the time. You want HR to come put a thermometer in his mouth and a back of the hand to his forehead to make sure he’s not “faking” it.

sick time is not earned, that's why it's not paid out when you leave

Pretty sure my sick time and vacation is paid out when I leave actually, because I earned it by working here and not using it. Cheers.

I don't doubt they could have handled it smoother. I had to produce proof for bereavement once before myself, don't take it personally.

Sorry for your loss.

Sick pay is never paid out. Unused PTO and/or vacation time is paid out. It is law. You don't get to take unused bereavement time with you either.

They started making this distinction 20+ years ago because of the little old ladies who retire with 2 years of sick time because they were never sick.

No corporation I have worked for in 25 years pays out sick, if yours does good for you, but they are not legally obligated, if you live and work in the US like your profile says.

Not positive but pretty sure we do. Our sick time is cut in half by January 1st every year so people can’t stack up days and then leave.

You have to use all your vacation by January 31st or it disappears and you start out with 10 days on February 1st.

I had something similar when my grandfather died. The woman in HR wanted to micromanage the hell out of it all so she insisted I bring evidence that he died and I was away from work for the service of his funeral. We didn't give out pamphlets or brochures and she told me "well then I can't give you any bereavement leave for it"

lol what a kunt, srs.

I ended up talking to a different HR rep and she took my word for it and left it at that. Sorry you have to go through this bull**** too, op

I’ve calmed down quite a bit since yesterday and not really sure how to go about calling her out about the situation.

Strong being a tattletale. You should have just answered her question and told her how you felt about having to answer it... build rapport and help your coworkers grow.

Sorry about your grandpa though. RIP.

as someone who works in a professional setting we get bereavement and such I would go to her boss and lay down what happened in from them and express how you feel and how she overstepped into your personal life and while grieving a lose of a loved one. She could've gone about it in a much easier manner hell I know for a fact my boss wouldn't even question it if I called him tomorrow morning about a family member close to me has died and would leave me be until I got back to handle whatever is needed to provide to HR

This. Just unnecessary and inconsiderate to even make that phone call. I guess if he was technically alive on his deathbed I would’ve had to use a sick day, but because he died Monday morning I get to take a bereavement day. Wow thank you.
