Look at SW Colorado. Bayfield, Cortez, mancos, etc. The craziness hasn't hit there yet and places like those are definitely in the mountains. I'd live there myself but my daughter's disease mandates that we live somewhere accessible to specialist doctors so I can't. They do have a locksmith and some other small town basics so it’s not as crazy as some of the 4 building towns with a saloon, a tavern, a public house, and a general store get.
Love Stanley was there well in the area Yankee Fork (cool old mining area with ghost town) for a week this summer.
