Average EMT salary in Texas is $20/hr. My cousin is an EMT. He's on that poverty time. LOL

OP is correct. People working hard in the kitchen aren't the problem, the problem is being underpaid as an EMT at $15 an hour. That wage is pure poverty and they are a respected and essential position. The real travesty is that paying them $15 is allowed to happen at all. Direct your anger to the right people.

well on one hand everyone and there mother wants to be an EMT so while it requires skill still = high labor pool / pay accordingly

Nobody wants to be a mcdonalds worker and it requires low skill so it equals out to about the same as a EMT. Low labor pool unless pay is sufficient

emts make mad overtime do they not? sleeping in the trucks 2-3 days on, 2-3 days off or something like that?

but people are mad at min wage hikes mostly because it accomplishes nothing except destroys already shrinking middle class dividing the country further into rich and poor

EMTs are more the burger flippers of the first responders

lowest requirements, lowest pay, dont really do much compared to more advanced titles or firefighters who are full paramedics some with military medic backgrounds or prior work as a nurse.

wow I just learned when reading this, then googling it, an emt is not the same thing as a paramedic. I was gunna say I’ve had an emt give me an iv but never a cna. But it must have been a paramedic

emt's are mobile lifeguards. They learn basic first aid and CPR. But yeah, it's the equivalent of a medtech or CNA. So the hierarchy is like:

Doctor
PA/Nurse practitioner
paramedic/nurse
EMT/Med Tech

Training to be a Pilates instructor is about 500 hours.

It isn't a "burger flippers getting paid too much" problem. If anything it's an "employers resisting inflationary pressures" problem.

Seems like [so far anyway] people are more willing to be EMTs for $15 than to work fast food for less than that.

Personally I don't think I could do it at this point. I did have a fast food job in high school for a minute. I actually went to an "on the spot interviews" event at a McD's in MI. The constant screeching, buzzing, and beeping from the kitchen almost had me walking before I even spoke to anyone. Can't do it.

This morning I've been pondering checking out a Mexican bakery not too far away. Probably would pay near nothing, but I've been thinking I should learn better Spanish. Could be a free language immersion program.
