Why do people say to avoid surgery? Sounds like a quick fix/patch up.
Yeah, I'm seeing to the physio stuff, just don't know what else they can offer, by my understanding I should've completed everything physio has to offer already when self posture fixing lol. Eh, I guess they're the specialist.
Thanks.

The other day an older guy was going into the gym and he couldn't lift his foot to step onto the sidewalk. So, I helped him up.
I asked him what was going on he said that he had super painful disc issues and got surgery. He said the pain was gone and he was happy, but man his legs were not working well.
I do not know if it was from that or what.
However, I got scared for my gf. Her pain needs to go but I don't want her to not be able to walk.
I need to research the success of these surgeries.

I know that one of the lumbar discs presses on her spine and that parlyzes her right anterior tibialis and that muscle, over your shin picks your foot up. So, she can't do that, thus she has trouble walking. When she does all the muscles in that leg get stressed and are painful.
Are you getting any kind of surgery?

A surgeon? Have you already consulted with them? What did they say they can do in terms of fixing her?
My plans? Sit on a waiting list for all my referrals. Have another try with physio, follow it insanely closely. Start doing RDLs and doing weighted planks, (Ie, protecting the lumbar) never bothered in the past. I may be missing something, but that's the jist of it. Honestly, someone in an old thread of mine mentioned opioids/opiates? Not sure, but it is tempting.
What about your partner, other than surgery, what has she got lined up? Actually, how old is she?
Thanks.

We are going to see a surgeon soon.
Meanwhile, I have worked in healthcare for about 33 years and I'm scared of doctors. Many are "autists" and kind of like hustlers. They will give you some treatment, totally f@ck you up, and it's like "oh well" and then they buy another car with the money. Other doctors are great and like Sherlock Holmes investigators. So, how does one know which kind they are talking to!?
I don't and it makes me nervous, so I will have to research what the doctor says.
She just got rid of her primary doctor for saying all kinds of nonsense and accusing her of drug seeking. That doctor was from India and was looking at my gf like she was trash. They she was looking at me like what's with your gf?!
My gf is not on pain meds!! She was asking about a muscle relaxer that is not dangerous.
The doctor was a woman, which is not good, and seemed to be judging my gf for being in pain. Also, she was not interested in getting the MRI results.
I had to get them and that's crazy.
How much pain are you in?
it sounds moderate rather than debilitating so I can understand your issue with surgery.

You can talk to your rheumatologist about this (unless you’ve already tried them for at least 2-months and had little to no symptomatic relief).
What did the blood work your rheumatologist pulled say? Did he test you across the spectrum for autoimmune issues that may be causing your chronic pain? Although this sounds primarily musculoskeletal in nature, there may be an autoimmune component. Do you have autoimmune issues in your family (this may include type 1 diabetes mellitus, as well as thyroid disease)? Also, have you ever been in a car accident/neck accident of any sort? Straightening of the cervical spine often indicates prior trauma.
If you have MSK imbalances you need to visit a quality physiotherapist (physical therapist). They sure as s_hit are not all the same. They will help you build a proper foundation. It’s crucial to listen to them and be extremely proactive at home with whatever plan they provide. This will take work and discipline. Everyday. Possibly indefinitely, but you will improve.
If you have a component involved such as fibromyalgia it’s important for you to train yourself in meditation and stress relief. As well as possibly a medication called Cymbalta. These are things that need to be discussed with your family physician and/or psychiatrist.
You may benefit from a referral to a sports medicine physician. They are trained best to resolve MSK issues and would likely point you in the right direction for a quality physiotherapist. They are also trained to provide trigger point injections to those “knots” you spoke of. This will help release the muscle spasm in your traps which hinder proper posture, as well as catalyze the healing process your physical therapist is working to accomplish.
Regarding surgery, this is a last resort and surgeons don’t want to cut someone like you because more likely than not you will get worse and not better. Think of your spine as a building scaffold. If you patch one part, another area will need to be re-enforced differently. You do not have pathology indicating the need for surgical intervention at present time.
Your situation sucks, but you will need different specialties to obtain a healthy baseline. It seems like a lot now, but reread what I typed up a few times, maybe take notes and educate yourself for each appointment. Work as an advocate for your health with the different specialists you visit.

I don't get it, if opioids can fix/camouflage pain, then why not? Without pain, all I'd have is general movement dysfunctions, which is far better than extreme pain.

Definitely, will make sure I find a good physio. I did ask my rheumatologist to request a physio who is aware of such conditions, not some 19 year old reading by the book.
They did say I have fibromyalgia, but that just sounds like a blanket term/label for the hospital records. Basically a dismissal in my eyes lol. Meditation and stress relief? I never get stressed but is it worth checking out? I'll check out that Cymbalta thingy, thanks.
I tried those trigger point injections, failed :/ Even had botox and a occipital nerve block.
Hmmm, thanks for explaining that thing about surgery.
So, in your last paragraph, what do u mean by educate myself for the appointment? Should I be saying specific key things to the specialists or something?

2. 2008 was a long time ago. She needs orders for new lumbar XR and new lumbar MRI. She may benefit from trial of physical therapy, as well as prescription NSAID & muscle relaxant (I don’t know her medical history, so what she can tolerate will be discussed with her family doc, etc).
3. Depending on MRI result, she will need referral to pain specialist and/or neurosurg. If indicated, go with epidural corticosteroid injection before narcotics. Neurosurg would agree with above unless they observe something on MRI indicating urgent surgical intervention.
FYI, any issues with numbness in her taint, or bladder/bowel incontinence means she needs to go to ER for emergent evaluation and MRI.

She got the MRI back in 2008, she was in major pain and had trouble walking. That affected her ability to work and what kind of insurance she had.
So, she got classified as a "poverty slob" with fake back pain.
In Philly, women saying they have back pain is a way to get SSI (social security benefits) and defraud the government. A lot of drug addicts do that or fake mental illness. So, the various doctors would not get her MRI records, would give her antidepressant meds, nerve pills, and garbage that has nothing to do with treating a spinal injury.
So, she could never get help and like I've said, medical people would tell her her MRI results were lost, destroyed, etc. As I have said, I've worked in healthcare for 33 years and most doctors and especially nurses are absolute trash people.
If you are not rich, they see you as scum, a liar, etc.
Anyway, I knew they were lying about the records and I got her records to prove she isn't lying, which is insane that I have to do that.
Now, we are on the path to getting her evaluated properly and not dismissed.

The thing about my gf is that her anterior tibialis is paralyzed, so she can't lift her foot. I read this is called "drop foot" and is caused by a certain lubar disc pushing on the part of the spine that controls that muscle. That's basically a massive "pinched nerve".
The reason I see surgery are an option, although is scares me, is that when something is paralyzed, it's beyond our control to work it. So, it needed to be fixed manually.
My gfs' big issue isn't back pain so much as it is trying to walk on a leg that doesn't work. It jacks up and totally stressed the muscle in that leg out.
Watching her I can see it's like walking with one show having a heel and the other a flat heel. Eventually, that would harm all the muscles in your legs due to an uneven walking pattern. That's what she has. So, it's back pain but also super stressed out muscles from walking incorrectly.
We will have to think hard about what the doctor says.

- Your blood panel looks fine at face value. What I’m focusing on is your ANA, CRP and ESR are normal. This is good and it leans on a diagnosis of degenerative pathology and/or fibromyalgia.
- Physiotherapy and physical therapy are the same thing.
- Fibromyalgia is used as a blanket diagnosis for some, but it’s a legit issue. If they feel this may be apart of your problem they should have talked to you about Neurontin, Lyrica and Cymbalta. Neurontin and Lyrica are in the same family and help with nerve pain and certain causes of chronic pain such as those due to fibromyalgia. Cymbalta is an antidepressant which works to decrease chronic pain and is successful with degenerative and fibromyalgia related issues. Just because a medication is listed as a antidepressant class doesn’t mean you’re depressed, etc. it’s an excellent adjunct med. Talk to your family doc or rheum about the above.
- Meditation, when done properly over time, will help you deal with and lessen your perception of pain. Stress relief covers a spectrum of things- chronic pain is one of them.
- Yes. Read up on what I’ve talked to you about. A good doctor will advocate for you being proactive in therapy and adding ideas. Not all physicians are the same either. You need to work with them; just like mechanics, there are good ones and s_hit ones out there.
You have my word as a Schons.

Idk what caused it either. I remember the first time I felt it
It felt like I pissed down the back of my leg. I was like 13 or 14
I bent down to pick up a baseball at my bros game.
They think it MIGHT have been my heavy backpack in middle school
It's hard to describe. Yea I do think ab work helps, it completely supports the spine. So improving them won't hurt
Idk how to describe how it affected me because seemingly I'm able to do everything. I'm cognizant of it existing but it doesn't hold me back most of the time. Every now and then I will feel it but then so will most people standing up on concrete for 9 or 10 hours
It's NEVER gotten to a point like it was when I was a teen. I couldn't walk at certain points. My legs would go numb
I've only ever felt slight tingles comparatively.
Has it gotten better? Id prob have to get an mri right now to find out. Never experienced what I used to but I know it still exists. So idk about "better"
I'd say the overall experience has been manageable with times of discomfort

I've only ever felt slight tingles comparatively.
Has it gotten better? Id prob have to get an mri right now to find out. Never experienced what I used to but I know it still exists. So idk about "better"
I'd say the overall experience has been manageable with times of discomfort
When you had a heavy backpack, what issues came up for you and do you really blame your issues on the heavy backpack? (I'm starting too)
Gym wise, can you do all the lifts fine?
Thanks.

She needs to establish care with a quality family physician. They’re the gateway to proper care, maintenance and appropriate referrals.
Your girlfriend is due for a new MRI given her complaints, and insurance will cover the expense given the situation.
Try looking into docs in the Main Line area.

Opioids work on something called a u-receptor. A lot of times this doesn’t do d_ick for the source of your back/neck pain. Trust me, bro - you don’t want to get on this train unless there are no other options. Especially at 18.

Well, with everything else you said in mind, I guess that makes sense. Isn't there some kind of insanely strong universal painkiller that war veterans would take with their blow of limbs?
Cool! Thanks for eyeing up my bloodesf results, I was just told it was fine.
Hmmm, I see. I've never heard of those drugs, I think they're reluctant to prescribe because I'm 18. (Almost 19). I have tried an antidepressant called amitriptyline, dry mouth and useless. I will definitely ask, but how do I ask without being dismissed as a crazy drug guy?
Interesting, will try that. I have been doing yoga in the recent years. Will try meditation, thanks. I think there's a Japanese misc user on here who does meditation.
Really? I always thought that doctors hate the "know it all patient". Ie, why ask a doctor if you're going to motor mouth throughout. I was always reluctant because I thought I'd get dismissed?
How are you meant to seek out good and bad doctors? I typed them in online and not much comes up.
Thanks.

- A good physician will listen to you and the medications I’ve told you to talk about with them. Don’t come off as a know it all. Come off as a patient needing a discussion of options. They will consider the medications mentioned long before they touch their pen to pad to write you for an opioid.
- It can be tough to find a quality family doc.. unfortunately. Word of mouth, good local health networks, etc.
- If you feel like the doc is being dismissive then leave. That’s a bad doctor. If they’re fat or smell of cigarettes then leave. That’s also a bad doc.

Prolonged, elevated levels of D3 can lead to increased calcium levels of blood. Prolonged, elevated levels of calcium are linked to increased cardiac risk.
Moral of the story: eat a well balanced diet and be done with it

Doctors are the kind of people that inspired Nazism, racism, and so on.
I have met SOME Sherlock Holmes types of doctors and they are the best. Holmes was a perfectionist character who had to know everything there was to know and would pursue an issue into the ground. That's the way I am at work and if you have an kind of person like that in your life, stick with them.
As I've said, most of the doctors I have met seem legit autistic to me, and I understand what autism is. I'm not using it as a joke or insult. They are people who can remember things well, but have no insight.
So, as doctors, they are like an autistic chef. They know the recipes for a hundred different types of cakes but not how to change the flavor or understand why anyone would want to eat them.
That's why most doctors know nothing about health. They know diagnosis, they know treatments, but they don't know anything about being healthy. Most doctors can't tell you half of what most miscers know about staying fit, eating, etc. That's because the doctor is an autistic memory machine.
Other doctors are narcissistic elitists who think they're superior to others.
I started out teaching mentally retarded people. Many doctors would not treat them because it was a waste of time. We had to find a Catholic doctor who believed in god and he would help the MR patients.
If you take that story, you can see how doctors would do medical experiments on black people, jews, and so on.
As I've noted, my gf has been kicked around for years but she is in pain all the time and not at her full power. I met her seven years ago and she was a tall beautiful redhead. As the pain grew her personality was affected, she lost weight because she couldn't walk to get food, and so on. So, she is poor and not vital looking, thus she is a "scum" not even worth ordering medical records for, because they can't be real!
Doctors are scum because they are humans provided with too much power.
Nurses are way worse.
I had to laugh are how people during the whole "covid" and "vaccine" thing were worshipping "doctors" and "science" all of which are a joke I've had direct experience with.

holee fuark the awful info in here...bpc/tb aint gon do chit for disc issues. the fact is, if everyone had an mri on their spine, most ppl would should some type of bulging disc. not all discs are symptomatic tho. that being said, i had a herniated disc that was so bad i had to get a microdiscetcomy due to quality of life being 0/10. couldnt walk, sit, stand, nothing. right leg went numb and felt like it weighed so much.
my surgery was several weeks ago - i feel so much better today. im in week 3 of PT and making good progress. feel like because i lifted a lot before the injury, im making a strong recovery. but i wont push it, prob wont lift for awhile maybe sometime later this year. kinda got other things im focusing on til then.
op you need to strengthen TF out of your core. you need to do the mcgill 3 every fking day. read the back mechanic - stu mcgill is the best back expert around. he worked with a powerlifter whose career was basically done due to back issues, the guy was able to recover and then went on to squat 1300 lbs.

How did her issues start? Was she lifting at all? (I'm not diagnosing here, I'm drawing parallels to myself, my pelvic/lumbar region issues may have been beought on by posture/lifting or simply a manifestation of issues travelling down the chain starting at the neck.)
Thanks.

DO NOT start doing RDLs. Learn to STRENGTHEN and activate ALL supporting muscles and chill on ANY spinal loading movements. You can isolate your legs, glute, and back muscles without needing to load your spine. Do chest supported rows, leg press, hack squats, leg extensions, leg curls, and for you ESPECIALLY LEARN TO HAVE CONSTANT MUSCULAR TENSION, SLOW DOWN ALL YOUR MOVEMENTS and keep the tension on the muscles. More muscular strength and activation = less spinal activation and inflammation
Also lots of people say strengthen your core, this is incorrect, strengthen the FUK out of your glutes and leg muscles and this will take TONS more stress off your back/spine.
