As a Texan, I can confirm DFW is a great area to live in. This is coming from a native Houstonian, and if you know Houstonian's, you'll know they act butthurt/spiteful about Dallas for some retarded/"Cool" reason.

I lived in Plano for 2-years, and I can confirm you SHOULD enjoy it overall. 100k is PLENTY to have a good life over there.

Austin is fun to visit, but wouldn't want to live there. Houston is meh.


PROS:
- Speaking on mainly, the Plano area:
Food - Tons of options, and diverse overall. Not as diverse as Houston, but barely any lower and way better than the nation in general. Close to Carrollton (Get you some bomb Korean food/bbq), and lots of good variety of food in the area.

Jobs - Tons of companies in the area. There's a reason Plano/Frisco are very ideal locations to live in. If you're looking for a good corporate job, you should have no troubles with the number of options here. I use to live right across from JP Morgan's big campus in Plano.

Weather - Weather is good. Not LA-good, but no humidity and it's overall good year-around.

Traffic - I lived and commuted in Plano, so I can't complain. I never dealt with traffic as it was never bad on the West side where I lived and worked.

Nightlife - Nightlife is good overall. You have the younger spots, cougar/midlife crisis areas/and so forth. Lots of options.


CONS
Houses are getting expensive, all-around, but you can live further out and buy a cheaper house that's still nice. People moving in need to pay attention that property taxes are much higher in Texas than most other states.

Douche/Arrogant vibes in certain areas, but it's Texas, so lots of friendly people overall.

Deep Ellum isn't as fun as Austin. Not as secure/managed as 6th Street. Some nights can turn real ghetto/ratchet.

Kansas City is pretty good honestly for someone earning ~$100k/yr. Outdoors aren't that great here (have to go a few hours out near the Ozarks for good camping/hiking/float trips) but I'm from the Upper Midwest (North Dakota/South Dakota/Iowa/Nebraska/Minnesota) and it's all relative, there are many places that are worse... KC beats everything in the area surrounding it pretty easily (only other Midwestern cities that compete with it are Minneapolis, Chicago, Madison, Detroit, but honestly I don't think I could ever live somewhere again as cold as any of those). Pretty fun city with a metro population of ~2.4M people, strong economy/job opportunities, can buy an awesome house for ~$300k, relatively warm weather.

I'd rather live somewhere like Orange County, San Diego, Denver, Florida, etc. but the cost of living in KC means I can go on trips to all those places and still max out my retirement accounts, have an awesome home to myself, and spend as much money as I want while traveling without having to worry or make $200k+
